4 Setting into Operation

4.1 Setting up the subwoofer system
Place the subwoofer system on a solid sur-
face . When using a single subwoofer, it
is not important to place it exactly in the
middle between the stereo speakers as it
will not be possible to precisely locate the
very low frequencies reproduced by the sub-
woofer . However, do not place it too close
to walls or in corners; this would distort the
frequency response and prevent any heat
dissipation of the amplifier .
It is possible to install another speaker
system on top of the subwoofer system .
For this purpose, insert a spacer tube with
a diameter of 35 mm (e . g . from the PAST
series) into the stand sleeve on the upper
side of the subwoofer, then fasten a speaker
system equipped with a stand sleeve on its
lower side on top of the subwoofer system .
When setting up the subwoofer system,
always make sure that air will be able to
flow freely through the cooling fins on the
rear; otherwise, problems may occur due to
overheating of the amplifier and the protec-
tive circuit will mute the sound .
4.2 Connection
Before making or changing any existing
connections, switch off the subwoofer sys-
tem and the units to be connected .
1) Feed the audio input signals for the left
and right stereo channels via XLR plugs
or 6 .3 mm plugs to the jacks INPUT (6) .
These jacks allow to connect the line level
output, e . g . of a mixer, CD / MP3 player
or preamplifier .
The inputs are designed for stereo
signals (R = right channel, L = left chan-
nel) . A mono signal for the subwoofer
is internally created from the two stereo
channels of the signal source . For stereo
operation of two subwoofer systems,
only connect one channel to each sys-
tem .
2) The input signals of the jack INPUT are
present at the jacks THRU (5) . These
jacks allow to connect the active stereo
speaker systems, for example .
3) For power supply, use the mains cable
provided to connect the mains jack (9)
to a mains socket (230 V/ 50 Hz) .
5 Operation
1) To prevent the initial volume from being
too high, set the control LEVEL (3) to MIN
before switching on . Then switch on the
subwoofer system with the POWER (8)
switch .
2) Reproduce music via all speakers of the
audio system . Use the control LEVEL to
adjust the desired volume of the low bass
frequencies .
The red LED PEAK will light up at the
maximum undistorted volume . If the LED
lights up frequently, reduce the volume
with the control LEVEL .
CAUTION Never adjust a very high
volume . Permanent high
volumes may damage your
hearing! Your ear will get
accustomed to high volumes which do
not seem to be that high after some
time . Therefore, do not further increase
a high volume after getting used to it .
3) Adjust the upper cut-off frequency
(60 – 150 Hz) for the subwoofer with the
control FREQ (4) in such a way that the
subwoofer will ideally complement the
sound of the other speakers . Then use
the control LEVEL to readjust the volume
of the low bass frequencies, if required .
4) When the stereo speakers and the sub-
woofer system are placed at different
distances to the listener, phase cancella-
tion may result (certain frequencies will
be reproduced at a lower volume) . To
compensate this effect, use the switch
PHASE (1) to reverse the phase of the
subwoofer signal .
Test both switch positions to find the
position offering the bass reproduction
of the highest volume at the listening
position . Then use the control LEVEL to
readjust the volume of the low bass fre-
quencies, if required .
5) After use, switch off the subwoofer sys-
tem with the POWER switch .
