MAINTENANCE
Caution: Always isolate the pump from the mains electricity before
installing or carrying out any maintenance to the skimmer.
TheV²Skim 80 Micro Protein Skimmer should need very little adjustment and maintenance
once set up correctly. However, due to salt deposits and the high calcium level in marine
aquariums it is common for deposits to build up and it is recommended that the skimmer is
cleaned periodically.
1. To operate efficiently, the skimmer must be in use 24 hours a day.
2. Make sure all connections are tightly secured.
3. Check regularly if skimmer is functioning properly and producing the desired foam
consistency and waste material.
4. When the collection cup (2) is full, ensure all waste material is removed.
5. Remove collection cup (see diagram) and clean any organic
build up or salt and/or calcium deposits from the collection
cup and neck.
6. Ensure the water outlet (14), water inlet (7) and the air
inlet (13) are clean and free of blockages.
7. Clean the skimmer regularly. USEFUL TIP: The unique
design allows most parts of the V²Skim 80 to be easily
accessed for simple cleaning and maintenance. Just
follow the instructions below:-
a. Switch off your water supply pump and disconnect
from the V²Skim 80.
b. Remove the V²Skim 80 from the side of your
aquarium or sump.
c. Gently remove the collection cup (2).
d. Carefully unscrew the securing nut (4), by gently
turning it anti-clockwise.
e. Carefully disconnect the parts required and clean as
necessary.
f. Carefully re-assemble, ensuring that the air inlet cover (12) is positioned the
correct way up (the small arrows on the cover should point upwards) and that
all parts are properly reconnected and secured. Failure to do so could result in
leaks.
8. During routine maintenance it is advisable to ensure that all O rings are checked
for any signs of degradation and replaced if necessary. Failure to do so could result
in leaks.
9. Clean your water supply pump regularly to ensure it does not become clogged with
debris or detritus. Refer to instructions provided with your water supply pump.
USEFUL TIP: Any blockages or detritus can be removed from the skimmer by simply
rinsing the skimmer with warm water under a running tap.
