VERSACE HISTORY
Milan 1978, first collection for women by "Gianni Versace Donna". A star
was born - the Gianni Versace fashion house, set to become a symbol of
Italian luxury and fashion worldwide.
The '80s were a time for expanding one's horizons, flanking clothing
with the design and production of sophisticated accessories. The fashion
house was an instant hit, with its watch collections (Atelier, 1989)
designed in line with the maison's intrinsic style and characterised by the
Medusa. It was generally agreed: Swiss made but Italian style. In 1996
Versace won the De Beers award with its "Tiara", a jewel of over 1200
diamonds and the most prestigious element of the collection.
That same year, Gianni Versace designed a limited edition collection of
jewellery watches, springing from a collaboration between the famous
designer and Franck Muller, who developed and produced it in Geneva.
In 1998, Versace SA, an independent company for the production and
international distribution of sophisticated watches, jewels and writing
implements, was founded.
