Posi-Max Series
Installation & Maintenance Information
APPlIcAtIon
The Posi-Max Series is a power distribution panel used to back feed buildings for quick power
restoration in the event of an outage. ETL certified for installation per the guidelines provided
below. Attached instructions must be followed to maintain approvals. Posi-Max Panels are suitable
for use outdoors and are ETL certified per UL 1008. Posi-Max Panels should be installed, inspected,
InStAllAtIon
to avoid the risk of fire, explosion, or electric shock, electrical power must be off
before and during installation and maintenance. Connections to inlets shall be made by qualified
personnel only.
1.
Posi-Max Panels are furnished without any openings for user supplied incoming power. Holes
should be punched for cable entry prior to panel installation. Deburr all punched holes and
only install listed fittings with a minimum of a NEMA 3R rating. Incoming power cables are
recommended to penetrate the top or sides of the enclosure provided adequate bend radius is
available. Minimum bend radius will depend on size and type of the cable and can be calculated
using NEC Table 312.6(B).
2.
Select a mounting location that is at least 4 feet from the bottom of the enclosure to the ground and
will provide suitable strength and rigidity for supporting all contained wiring and components. Figure
1 shows the mounting dimensions. See Table 1 for proper mounting locations.
Perform visual, electrical, and mechanical inspections on a regular basis. The environment and frequency
of use should determine this. However, it is recommended that checks be made at least once a year. We
recommend an Electrical Preventive Maintenance Program as described in the National Fire Protection
Association Bulletin NFPA 70B: Recommended Practice for Electrical Equipment Maintenance (www.nfpa.
org).
3.
Securely fasten enclosure to the mounting location.
4.
Before pulling wires, make sure to remove all sharp edges. Pull wires into enclosure, making
sure they are long enough to make the required connections. Make all electrical connections.
The internal grounding terminal shall be used as equipment grounding means.
5.
Connect power supply cables to distribution lugs. Install approved fittings when required by
the National Electrical Code plus any other applicable standard.

and maintained by qualified and competent personnel.
Posi-Max Panels are certified per UL 1008 as Transfer Switch Accessory. Stainless steel units to be Type
4X when closed, Type 3S when in use. Painted steel units to be Type 4 when closed, Type 3S when in use.
PlUG connEct/DISconnEct SEQUEncE
The Posi-Lok Panels use a sequential interlock system that requires the user to connect and disconnect
each plug in sequence. Plugs must be connected into the Posi-Lok Panel from left to right starting from
the ground plug and disconnected right to left as shown in Figure 2. The polarized panels eliminate the
possibility of cross-phasing and the proper sequence MUST be followed in order to connect or disconnect a
plug.
Although the Cam-Lok receptacles do not have a forced sequential interlocking system, the Cam-Lok
receptacles should also follow the same connect and disconnect sequence as shown in Figure 3.
