Calibration of humidity measurement
Accurate humidity is difficult to measure because it is constantly changing.
Measurement errors can occur when the sensor is too close to the ground,
grass or other sources of moisture. The hygrometer sensor uses a capacitor
that varies with humidity. The accuracy of the sensor is +/- 5%. The values can
be adjusted on the screen to improve accuracy. You will need a multimeter or
one-step calibration kit to accurately measure humidity.
Calibration of the precipitation quantity
The rainwater collector is factory calibrated to detect the bucket tips
(and precipitation) for each 0.01" (or 0.3 mm) of rain. A pipe rain gauge is
recommended for calibrating the rainfall. Use a rain gauge with a minimum
aperture of 4 inches. Any small measuring device may cause the readings
obtained to be inaccurate. Place the tubular rain gauge directly next to the
rain collector. Compare the sums of three storms. On this basis, develop
a mean value for the deviation of the measured values. Do not compare
the precipitation values with those from television, radio, newspapers or
neighborhood values. Such readings have not been taken in your immediate
environment and therefore do not provide accurate measurements of the
weather readings taking place in your environment. The rainwater collector
is carefully tested at the factory to meet the specifications listed on the back
of this manual. The rainwater calibration factor history is applied to the
running sum and not to individual measurements. All rainfall numbers are
calculated from the total number of measurements recorded by the station
since its reset. The sum is multiplied by 0.3 to obtain a sum in mm. This is then
converted to inches by multiplying by 0,0393700787 where appropriate. Then
the calibration multiplier is applied and this is the number which is stored and
compared with whenever a new sum is read from the station.
Memory Modes
In normal mode, press the HISTORY button to enter memory mode.
If you press the SET button in memory mode, the word „CLEAR" will blink
on the screen and you can clear the entire history by pressing the SET
button for 2 seconds.
If you press the MIN/MAX button in due memory mode, you can select a
value from the last 24 hours at 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21 and 24 hour intervals.
Press the HISTORY button or no button for 30 seconds to return to
normal mode.
