PRESSURE RELIEF VALVE
In order to prevent dangerous high pressure in the jacket, the pressure relief valve was
added. It is located above the right shoulder or at the back, below on the right side. If
the internal pressure exceeds the closing pressure of the pressure relief valve's
springs, the valve opens and the air escapes. In this way, damage to the jacket is
avoided. The valve closes automatically, if the internal pressure is lower than the
spring pressure.
The pressure relief valve can also be activated manually by the supplementary cord
with a pull button.
Pull carefully until the desired amount of air has been released. Once you let go, the
valve closes again. Disadvantage: The valve has no flat seal. Therefore, during the
open phase, water could seep in.
Because of the existence of these three systems, (mouthpiece, quick stop and pressure
relief valve), you can use a different one, if one of them is not functional.
As has been mentioned already, water can reach the inside of the jacket when the
pressure relief valve or the mouthpiece is in use and can reduce the buoyancy volume
by a corresponding amount.
For that reason, please drain the jacket after each use (See the section: After the dive).
