Real tests
(base unit must be in normal mode)
This test should be carried out at least
once a year, particularly after you have
been away for a long period of time:
send smoke into the detection
chamber and check that this triggers:
the detector alarm,
the base unit siren and the sirens in
fire alarm modulation
the telephone transmitter ;
stop the sirens and check that the
base unit has recorded the alert:
with a voice base unit, the base unit
speaks the message "FIRE ALARM",
with a different base unit, the base
unit indicates the alarm with some form
of audible acknowledgement, and the
"ALARM" and "FIRE" indicator lights
come on.

This test will set off the sirens ;
it is advisable to warn neighbours in
advance and to take any precautions
necessary to avoid hearing problems
caused by the siren ringing.
Indication of a battery
problem
A brief flash of the red smoke detector
indicator light every minute indicates
that the battery is in good condition.
If there is a battery problem,
the red detector programming
indicator light will not come on when
any programming key is pressed. This
enables you to locate the detector with
the problem,
the detector warns the base unit,
which records and reports the problem.
Next time the system is set, the base
unit will report the problem:
with the voice message "BATTERY
LOW, FIRE DETECTOR",
or with sound messages, and the
"BATTERIES" and "FIRE". indicator lights
will come on.
When a battery fault becomes evident,
the detector continues to function
perfectly for 30 days. It is advisable
to replace the battery as soon as
possible.
M a i n t e n a n c e
The red indicator light on the front of the
detector flashes every minute to
indicate that the detector is functioning
correctly.
The only maintenance required is to
dust the detection head at least once
a year with a vacuum cleaner.
Be prepared for a fire
Plan an evacuation route.
Prepare an evacuation plan for every
bedroom.
There is the least smoke nearest the
ground: crawl out of the house.
When the alarm rings, wake everyone
up.
Prearrange an assembly point outside
the house.
Avoid going into the house
unnecessarily if there is a fire.
Call the fire brigade.
