Troubleshooting

Problem
Cause
Decreased penetration
Air leakage in hoses, couplings
rate
Main valve leaking (flipper valve)
Rotation chuck bushing
Air leakage due to worn piston/cylinder
Air leakage due to worn intermediate
part/pilot guide
Insufficient feed force
Piston rod packing worn or deformed
Poor rotation
Splines of the rifle nut worn
Splines of the rifle bar worn down
Splines on the piston worn down
The toothing in the ratchet
The toothing in the ratchet
Chuck nut worn
Pawls worn
Uneven running
Piston has seized in the intermediate part
or the piston guide
Dirty or damaged main valve. Caused by
impurities or foreign matter entering the
drill with the compressed air
Freezing. Caused by leakage in the
flushing system or by excess water in the
compressed air or by excessive water
pressure
Uneven running (cont.)
The side bolts are unevenly or
insufficiently tightened. Can cause the
various parts to lose their alignment,
resulting in seizure of the moving parts.
Abnormal strains on the side bolts may
result in fracture at the threads.
Abnormal wear of the
Insufficient lubrication (Can cause
rotation chuck bushing
possible secondary damage)
The drill gets hot
Lack of oil
Freezing
Moisture in the compressed air
Water pressure higher

Water pipe breakage
Misalignment of the shank
Damaged flushing hole in the shank
Chipping of the piston tip
Misalignment of the shank

Solution
Change seals, and where required, change parts in the penetration
throttle valve
Grind the main valve so that it seals properly
Check the rotation chuck bushing with the gauge
wear. The limit for permissible wear is reached when the template
can be pushed so far in between the two opposite sides of the
hexagonal hole that its shoulders make contact with the bushing
Change the piston and/or cylinder
Change the worn part
Change the seal
Replace the rifle nut if the splines are worn
Replace the rifle bar when needed
Replace the piston when needed
Replace the ratchet housing if the tooth housing is so worn that the
pawls have difficulty catching
Replace the ratchet wheel if the toothing is so worn that the pawls
have difficulty catching
Replace the chuck nut if the splines have been worn to
spline width
Replace all pawls, all pawl springs and all pawl pins
Change the intermediate part/piston guide. If required, polish the
piston. Check the piston for heat damages such as blue colouring
and/or fissures. If it is damaged in this way, change the piston as
well
Clean and polish the valve so that it seals against the corresponding
cylindrical and plane sealing surfaces. If this is not possible because
the defects are too serious, the valve must be replaced
Check the flushing tubes and seals and the water pressure
water from the compressed air system. If the problem continues,
fit a water separator in the airline system
Check and repair any damage to the contact points and tighten the
bolts with the correct tightening torque
Check the chuck bushing with the specially designed gauge
maximum permitted wear limit has been reached when the gauge

, inserted between two opposite flat surfaces, touches the bottom.

Check the water pressure
- it must be lower than the air pressure

.
Add oil and check that it runs through. It is not sufficient that there
is oil in the exhaust air. There must also be an oil coating on the
shank of the drill steel. Check that the lubricator is connected in the
right direction.
Use water traps
Lower the water pressure
Change drill steel or chuck bushing or both
