4.
Insert the charger's barrel connector into the Hand Control.
5.
Once the charger is connected properly, the lift indicator located on the bottom cover
membrane lights orange and turns green when the lift is completely charged. The lift can
only be charged while the emergency stop switch is in the ON position.
The lift will not raise or lower when the Hand Control charger is connected;
Emergency lowering still functions.
Do not position the lift where it is difficult to disconnect the charger in an event
of an emergency. The unit can be isolated electrically from "Mains" by
unplugging the charger.
Low Battery
If the batteries of the lift are low (25%) and require charging, the indicator located on the bottom
cover membrane of the lift lights orange, a beep audible alarm sounds when button is pressed,
and the Hand Control displays the message Low Battery. If a transfer is in progress, complete
the transfer (the Emergency Down also continues to operate) and move the lift to a location
where it can be charged.
The lift may be used after one hour of charging from low battery; however, Handicare
recommends overnight charging or minimum of 5 hours.
If the batteries are fully discharged and require charging, the indicator on the lift control panel
lights red a beep audible alarm sounds when button is pressed, and the Hand Control displays
the message Very low battery.
When the battery is discharged the UP function is disabled. The Down, and
Emergency Down continue to operate.
Power supply is considered a part of the AP-450 system. Use only the
charger that was supplied with the lift. Use of any other charger will void
all warranties and may cause damage to the lift.
Do not position the lift where it is difficult to disconnect the charger in an
emergency.
The unit can be isolated electrically from "Mains" by unplugging the charger.
Plug Types
Plug types vary by geographical location. Refer to local electrical guidelines on the type of plug
or voltage which can be used (connection to the charger is an IEC 60320-C7 plug).
Attach the Hand Control to the Lift
A sturdy ladder may be required to access the hand control connection to re-
attach the Hand Control to the lift. Use caution whenever using a ladder.
Should you have any concerns or questions contact your local Handicare dealer or your local
Handicare business development manager.
Should the Hand Control disconnect from the side of the lift it must be re-connected in
order for the hand control to work. The lift can still be lifted and lowered using the
membrane located on the top cover while the hand control is disconnected.
The Hand Control of the AP-450 is designed with a locking connector to withstand normal day-
to-day usage. However, the connector can become disconnected if:
The lift is pulled along the track by the Hand Control cord
The Hand Control cord gets wrapped around an object while a lift or transfer is being
performed
Hand Control cord is accidentally pulled down by the caregiver or the individual being lifted
The Hand Control is connected to a lift connector located on the side of the lift.
The small latch arm on the Hand Control connector holds the Hand Control cord to the lift
connector in a specific orientation.
