WARNING:

NOTICE:
Before each use, inspect the entire product for damaged,
missing, or loose parts such as screws, nuts, bolts, caps,
etc. Tighten securely all fasteners and caps and do not
operate this product until all missing or damaged parts
are replaced. Please contact customer service or an
authorized service center for assistance.
APPLICATIONS
You may use this product for the purpose listed below:
 Breaking up garden soil to prepare seed bed for planting
 Shallow cultivating to remove weeds
INSTALLING/REMOVING BATTERY
See Figures 12 and 13.
To install battery packs:
 Raise the battery cover.
 Align raised ribs on battery pack with grooves in the bat-
tery port and install the battery pack into the tiller.
WARNING:
Make sure the latch on the bottom of the battery pack
snaps in place and the battery pack is fully seated
and secure in the tiller's battery port before beginning
operation. Failure to securely seat the battery pack could
cause the battery pack to fall out, resulting in serious
personal injury.

OPERATION

 Lower the battery cover and make sure it is securely
closed.
NOTE: This product has four active battery ports, two ports
on the left (PAIR A) and two ports on the right (PAIR B). To
use the tiller there must be at least two 40V batteries on
either the left side (PAIR A) or the right side (PAIR B). For
optimal performance, install four 40V battery packs of 4Ah
or greater is recommended. If only one battery is installed on
either the left or the right side, that battery will not provide
power to the unit.
To remove battery packs:
 Raise the battery cover.
 Press and hold the battery latch button at the bottom of
the battery pack.
 Remove battery pack from the tiller.
 Lower the battery cover and make sure it is securely
closed.
For complete charging instructions, refer to the Operator's
Manuals for your RYOBI battery pack and charger models.
WARNING:
To avoid accidental starting that could result in serious
personal injury, always remove the start key and battery
packs when moving or transporting the tiller.
STARTING/STOPPING THE TILLER
See Figures 14 - 16.
WARNING:
Ensure the wheels are installed for self-propulsion during
normal operation. Doing so will ensure the wheels provide
adequate resistance to the force generated during
tine rotation. If the wheels are installed in the wrong
position, the tine rotation could cause the unit to move
unexpectedly which could result in property damage or
serious personal injury.
NOTICE:
Wear heavy duty gloves when tilling.
 Raise the battery cover.
 Install battery packs as previously described.
 Insert the start key into the slot in front of the battery
ports.
NOTE: The start key can be inserted with the arrow facing
the two ports on the left (PAIR A) or the two ports on the
right (PAIR B). To start, the arrow must be facing a pair
of charged battery packs.
 Close the battery cover.
