Guard-barrier Function Verification
Verify that the guard barriers are functioning properly throughout the full range of motion:
bevel and blade height:
1. With the smart-guard system assembled, set the blade to the maximum height.
2. Raise both barriers (left and right) until they both lock in their raised positions.
3. Apply a downward force to release the barriers from their locked position: both barriers
should be in contact with the table.
4. Bevel the blade from 0° to 45° and then back to 0°. The barriers should remain in contact
with the tabletop and should not contact the blade throughout the complete motion.
5. Lower the blade to the lowest cutting height: both barriers should be in contact with the
table.
6. Repeat Step 4 with blade in lowest cutting-height position.
7. If barriers do not remain in contact with tabletop or if they contact the blade at any time,
do not use the saw. See the assembly section to make sure that the blade guard is
assembled properly or have the saw serviced by an authorized SKIL service center.

Using the correct blade
IMPORTANT: The saw blade provided on this
tool has a diameter of 10 inches, a carbide-
tipped kerf width of 0.1", and a plate (body)
thickness of 0.071". When looking for a
replacement blade, select one with a diameter
of 10 inches, which is accordance with the
markings on the saw, a kerf width equal to or
greater than 0.1 "and a plate (body) thickness
0.071" or less (Fig. 16).
WARNING
(less than 0.1") may cause the workpiece to bind against the riving knife during cutting. It is
recommended that the kerf of the replacement blade used on this saw be 0.1" or greater.
WARNING
0.071'', the riving knife will not properly serve as an aid to reduce kickback. The replacement
blade plate thickness must be equal to or less than 0.071".
WARNING
blade . These are metal plates positioned against the sides of the blade to reduce deflection
that may occur when using thin saw blades. Use of these devices on both sides will prevent
the blade from being properly aligned with the riving knife, which may bind the workpiece
during cutting. One "stabilizer" plate may be placed only against the outside of a thin
replacement blade. These plates are not required with the supplied Skil blade.
