Sound
This model features a digital elec-
multi-purpose
tronic sound system. All of the
sounds are real sounds. The
sounds were converted from ana-
log to digital and then stored as
data. When you operate your
loco, the data is converted back
into sounds.
Controls: The sound can be swit-
ched on and off using the power
control switch (see Operating
Modes).
The sound level can be adjusted
by turning the volume control
under the steam dome (Fig. 3).
Remove the steam dome cover to
reach the control.
Other features can be switched
on and off using the DIP switches
under the steam dome (Fig. 4).
Remove the round plate to reach
the switches:
Switch 1: Digital/Analog (with
55020 decoders only)
Switch 2: Brake sound on/off
Switch 3: Shoveling sound on/off
Switch 4: Starting whistle on/off
When Switch 1 is in the Analog
position and the model is stop-
ped, the standing sounds, like the
air pump, will continue as long as
the track voltage is between 0 and
6 volts. When Switch 1 is in the
Digital position, the standing
sounds will end after one cycle.
Bell and whistle: When starting,
a short blast of the whistle
sounds. To prevent the whistle
from sounding constantly during
switching, the whistle sounds only
if the air pump sound has been
played.
The bell and whistle can also be
triggered by the LGB Sound
Magnet (17050) included with this
model. The 17050 snaps between
the ties of most LGB track sec-
tions.
The magnet in the 17050 is
mounted under the LGB logo mol-
ded into the case. If the contact is
installed with the logo on the right
side of the direction of travel, it will
trigger the whistle when the
model passes. If the logo is on the
other side, it will trigger the bell.
With the Multi-Train System, you
can also trigger these sounds and
others with the Train Mouse func-
tion key (see Multi-Train System).
Brake: Triggering the "squealing"
brake sounds requires a skilled
