General
1
This manual is for Airfi x A expansion vessels with a capacity of
8 to 80 litres with a fl ow distributor to be fi tted in a standard
Airfi x A T-piece. The package includes an expansion tank (A)
with label (B), a manual (C) and a fl ow distributor (D). See the
label for the maximum working pressure and the pre-charge.
When rinsing with additives (for instance for protection against
legionella), the vessel has to be cut off from the potable water
installation, for example by means of an Airfi xControl.
Installation
• Expansion tanks with a capacity of 8 to 25 litres are installed
hanging on the water nipple (E). If necessary, use wall
bracket MB 2.
• Expansion tanks with a capacity of 35 to 80 litres are installed
hanging on the mounting eye (F), with the water nipple (E)
downward.
• If the expansion tank is to work properly, a pressure-reducing
valve must be fi tted immediately behind the water meter.
2
Installation
1. Slide the pieces of the fl ow distributor (D) approx. 58 mm apart.
2. Push the fl ow distributor (D) with the round cap into
the T-piece (G).
3. Put Tefl on tape (H) (do not use hemp!) on the expansion
tank connection.
4. Screw the expansion tank onto the T-piece. This determines
the length of the fl ow distributor.

First use

3
1. Close the water supply (K) and drain the pressure from the boiler.
2. Adjust the pre-charge of the expansion vessel to a value of
0.2 bar lower than the minimum cold-water pipe pressure.
See the vessel label for the pre-charge.
• Remove the guard (L) and the plug (M).
• Measure the pressure (P).
• Push the inner valve (S) lightly if the pressure is too high.
• If the pressure is too low, increase the pre-charge with nitrogen.
• Measure the pressure again.
• Repeat this procedure until the pre-charge is correct.
3. Install the plug and the guard.
4. Open the water supply.
5. Examine the seal for leaks.
Maximum water absorption
Consult the technical documentation for the correct calculation.

De-installation

4
1. Close the water supply (K).
2. Drain the pressure from the system.
3. Remove the guard (L) and the plug (M).
4. Push on the inner valve (S) to drain the pressure (P) from the
expansion tank.
5. Unscrew the expansion tank (A) and remove the fl ow
distributor (D).
The installation must be carried out by approved
personnel only.
Observe local regulations.
Caution:
the water in the expansion vessel may be hot.
Applications
• Use on the cold-water side of drinking water installations in
combination with a tank-type boiler system.
• Use in pressurized systems.
• Any form of warranty or liability will be voided if used in any
other way.
Safety requirements during installation
The expansion tank is comes pre-charged.
Damage may result in serious injuries.
The piping must be able to carry a full expansion tank.
Safety
• Prevent overpressure in the installation. Install a safety valve
(for example Prescor B) or a safety group in the boiler pipes
to ensure this.
• Set the opening pressure of the safety valve to a value that is
equal to or lower than the maximum pressure shown on the
label.
• The connection between the expansion tank and the boiler
must always be open.
5. For the purpose of annual maintenance, as prescribed, it is
recommended that you install an Airfi xControl module.
Maintenance and service
The pre-charge must be checked annually to make sure that the
expansion tank is in working order.
If water disappears through the safety valve, it is possible that
the pre-charge is too low. Check this in the following manner:
1. Close the water supply.
2. Drain the boiler until the pressure is 0 bar.
3. Check the pre-charge.
4. Increase the pre-charge with nitrogen.
Make sure that the pre-charge is not higher than the maximum
working pressure. If the expansion vessel cannot be pressurized,
it is possible that the membrane has a leak. You must then
replace the expansion tank. See point 4, De-installation.
Caution:
a full expansion tank is heavy.
Environment
Observe the local regulations when you dispose of
the expansion vessel.
