Wireless DMX Transmission System
These instructions are intended for installers of
lighting systems with basic knowledge in DMX
control. Please read the instructions carefully
prior to operation and keep them for later ref-
erence.
1 Applications
WDMX-3F and WDMX-3M are transmitters and
receivers (transceivers) for wireless transmission of
DMX control signals. Wireless transmission is made
in the frequency range 2.403 – 2.480 GHz of the ISM
band for which no licence is required. The frequency
hopping spread spectrum used with 1100 frequency
hops per second (78 channels) allows for a transmis-
sion which is highly resistant to interference.
2 Safety Notes
The units (transmitter/receiver, power supply unit)
correspond to all relevant directives of the EU and
are therefore marked with
.
WARNING The power supply unit uses danger-
ous mains voltage. Leave servicing to
skilled personnel; inexpert handling
may result in electric shock.
The units are suitable for indoor use only. Protect
them against dripping water, splash water and
high air humidity. The admissible ambient temper-
ature range is 0 – 40 °C.
Do not operate the units and immediately discon-
nect the power supply unit from the socket
1. if one of the units is visibly damaged,
2. if a defect might have occurred after a unit was
dropped or suffered a similar accident,
3. if malfunctions occur.
In any case the units must be repaired by skilled
personnel.
For cleaning only use a dry, soft cloth; never use
water or chemicals.
No guarantee claims for the units and no liability
for any resulting personal damage or material dam-
age will be accepted if the units are used for other
purposes than originally intended, if they are not
correctly connected or operated, or if they are not
repaired in an expert way.
If the units are to be put out of operation
definitively, take them to a local recycling
plant for a disposal which is not harmful to
the environment.
2.1 Conformity and approval
Herewith, MONACOR INTERNATIONAL declare that
the units WDMX-3F and WDMX-3M comply with
the directive 2014 / 53 / EU. The EU declarations of
conformity are available on request from MONACOR
INTERNATIONAL. The units are generally approved
for operation in EU and EFTA countries; they are
licence-free and require no registration.

3 Operation
Note: Both WDMX-3F and WDMX-3M can be operated as
transmitters or receivers. Each unit will automatically oper-
ate as a transmitter once a DMX signal is present at its XLR
connector (1). However, the configuration of the DMX con-
nector suggests to use the WDMX-3M as a transmitter at a
DMX output and the WDMX-3F as a receiver at a DMX input.
3.1 Setting into operation
1) Connect the cables of the power supply units pro-
vided to the jacks (2) of the transmitter and the
receiver, and then connect each power supply unit
to a mains socket (230 V/ 50 Hz). The LED (3) on
the units will briefly flash in red ➾ green ➾  blue
and then light up in the colour of the group cur-
rently selected.
2) For transmission, set the transmitter and the re-
ceiver to the same group. Six groups are avail-
able (red, green, blue, yellow, cyan, magenta). To
change the group of a unit, use a thin object to
briefly press the recessed button (4) repeatedly
until the LED lights up in the colour of the desired
group.
Thus, up to 6 independent wireless transmis-
sion systems with up to 512 DMX channels each
can be operated in parallel. It is also possible to
operate one transmitter with multiple receivers in
the same group.
3) Connect the transmitter to the DMX output of a
light controller or a DMX-controlled unit and put
the antenna (5) in a vertical position. The LED of
the transmitter starts flashing in red when a DMX
signal is present.
4) Connect the receiver to the DMX input (e. g. of
a light effect unit) and put the antenna (5) in a
vertical position. The LED starts flashing in green
when DMX signals are received.
5) After operation, disconnect the power supply
units from the mains to save power.
3.2 Changing the group
To change the group of a transmitter or a receiver
during operation, briefly press the button (4). The
LED (3) will light up in the colour of the current
group. Each time the button is briefly pressed, the
next group will be selected.
To reset the unit to the factory settings (group
"red"), keep the button pressed for more than
1 second.
3.3 Resetting the transmission protocol
WDMX-3F and WDMX-3M support additional trans-
mission protocols; however, these protocols are not
described here. If it is not possible to establish the
wireless transmission as described above or if a trans-
mitter/receiver behaves differently, the transmission
protocol selected may not be suitable.

To reset the transmission protocol:
1) Disconnect the unit from the power supply.
2) Use a thin object to keep the button (4) pressed
while reconnecting the power supply.
3) When the LED (3) lights up in white, release the
button. The LED will light up in the colour of the
transmission protocol currently selected.

4) If the LED does not light up in red, briefly press the
button repeatedly until it lights up in red, i. e. until
the protocol for the operation described above
has been selected.
5) To exit the protocol selection, keep the button
pressed until the LED lights up in white. Then
release the button.
The unit will return to the normal operating mode.
