3. Reposition the oil cap and tighten appropri-
ately.
WARNING: Wipe off any spilled fuel and oil before
starting the engine.
STARTING THE UNIT
WARNING: Before starting the engine, make sure
both the machine and you are on stable ground.
NOTE: In case of cold start it is necessary to use the
primer bulb (where applicable) (Fig. 11.25) by press-
ing it one to four times, pumping the fuel directly
from the carburetor to the cylinder.
1. Pull the brake lever back and hold it against the
handle (Fig. 12)
2. Keep the clutch lever released at all times. This
will prevent the mower from moving forward
when you operate the starter (Fig. 13).
3. With the starter handle in its support, pull the
starter grip (Fig. 17.33) slowly with your right
hand until you start to feel resistance. Then
pull energetically. The engine should start after
two to five pulls at most.
WARNING: To avoid breaking the starter rope,
do not pull the whole length of it or let it slide
along the edge of the cable guide hole. Release
the starter gradually, to avoid letting it fly back
uncontrollably.
NOTE: Once warm, the engine should start on the
first pull.
For maximum performance and reliability, allow the
engine to warm up before operating. Run the engine
for two to three minutes at idle speed.
OPERATING THE UNIT
Blade will be in action as soon as the engine is start-
ed. While the machine is working maintain the brake
handle in working position (Fig.12). The engine will
stop as soon as you release the brake handle.
Clutch lever
Push the clutch level (Fig. 1.1) forward and hold it
against the handlebar to propel the lawn mower
forward. Release the clutch to stop the mower's
forward movement.
WARNING: Always release the clutch lever when at-
tempting to start the engine (Fig. 13). If the clutch is
engaged, the mower will move forward.
Operate the clutch lever with a quick and complete
motion, so that the clutch is either fully engaged or
fully released. This will help to extend the service life
of the clutch mechanism.
STOPPING THE UNIT
1. Release the clutch lever.
2. Allow the engine to cool down by running in
idle for a few seconds.
3. Release the brake level from your grip to stop
the engine.
