Battery Type Switch
Use this switch to set the type of battery to be charged.
• Conventional – These type of batteries are usually used to start and run engines for
cars, trucks and motorcycles. These batteries have vent caps and marked as "low
maintenance" or "maintenance-free". These batteries are designed to deliver a high
cranking amp and have a greater plate count. Conventional batteries should not be
used for deep-cycle applications.
• Deep-Cycle and AGM – Absorbed Glass Mat batteries have a sealed case without vent
caps. These batteries have electrolyte absorbed in separators consisting of a sponge-like
mass of matted glass fiber. Such batteries are used for cars and deep-cycle applications.
Charge Rate Selector
Use this switch to set the maximum charge rate to one of the following:
• 2 A Trickle Charge – Intended for charging small batteries such as those commonly
used in garden tractors, snowmobiles and motorcycles. The 2 A rate can be used to
warm or trickle charge larger batteries.
• 12 A Fast Charge – Use for charging automotive, marine and deep-cycle batteries. Not
intended for industrial applications.
• 75 A Engine Start – Provides additional amps for cranking an engine with a weak or run
down battery. Always use in combination with a battery.
LED Indicators
• Full Charge (green) – When lit, this LED indicates that the battery is fully charged and
the charger has stopped charging and switched to the Maintain Mode of operation.
• Power On (yellow) – When lit, this LED indicates that there is AC power supplied to the
battery charger.
11. OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
This battery charger must be properly assembled in accordance with the
assembly instructions before it is used.
Charging
1. Make sure to place the charger on a dry, non-flammable surface, such as wood
or concrete.
2. Ensure that all of the charger components are in place and in good working
condition, including the plastic boots on the battery clips.
3. Connect the battery following the precautions listed in sections 6 and 7.
4. Connect the AC power following the precautions listed in section 8.
5. Select the appropriate settings for your battery.
6. When battery is fully charged, unplug the AC power cord and disconnect the positive
and negative clips from the battery.
NOTE: A buzz or hum is normal when the output cables have been disconnected and the
AC power cord is still connected to an electrical source (i.e. wall outlet).
Automatic Charging Mode
When an Automatic Charge is performed, the charger automatically switches to Maintain
Mode (see below) once the battery is charged.
Completion of Charge
When the FULL CHARGE (green) LED is lit, the charger has stopped charging and
switched to the Maintain Mode of operation.
Maintain Mode
When the FULL CHARGE (green) LED is lit, the charger has started Maintain Mode. In
this mode, the charger keeps the battery fully charged by delivering a small current, when
necessary. If the battery voltage drops below a preset level, the charger will go back into
Charge Mode until the battery voltage returns to the full charge level, at which point the
charger will return to Maintain Mode. The voltage is maintained at a level determined by
the BATTERY TYPE selected.
