Configuring the Device

This chapter describes how to configure a NetScreen-5GT ADSL device after you have
connected it to your network and to a power source. If you access the device for the first
time using the ScreenOS WebUI graphical interface, the Initial Configuration Wizard
guides you through the basic configuration. To use the Initial Configuration Wizard, refer
to the Juniper Networks NetScreen-5GT ADSL Getting Started Guide.
This chapter describes how to configure the NetScreen device if you choose to bypass the
Initial Configuration Wizard and proceed directly to the WebUI. For example, you need to
skip the wizard if you want to configure the device in Trust/Untrust/DMZ port mode. This
chapter also provides more information about how to access the device and about the
options that you configure in the Initial Configuration Wizard.
Note: After you configure the NetScreen device and verify connectivity to the Internet, you
must register your product at
such as internal antivirus or Deep Inspection Signature Service, can be activated on the
device. After registering your product, use the WebUI to obtain the subscription for the

CCESSING THE
You can configure and manage the NetScreen-5GT ADSL device in several ways:
WebUI: The ScreenOS WebUI is a graphical interface that is available through a
Web browser. To use the WebUI, you must be on the same subnetwork as the
NetScreen device. See
Telnet: Telnet is an application that allows you to access devices through an IP
network. To configure the device, you enter ScreenOS Command Line Interface
(CLI) commands in a Telnet session from your workstation. See

Note: You can also access NetScreen devices using Secure Shell (SSH)
applications. Refer to the "Administration" chapter in the "Administration"
volume of the NetScreen Concepts & Examples ScreenOS Reference Guide for
ScreenOS 5.0.0 for more information.
NetScreen-Security Manager 2004 (NSM) and NetScreen Rapid Deployment
(RD): If you are using NSM, you can optionally configure NetScreen appliances
with RD. Refer to the Rapid Deployment Getting Started guide (shipped with the
NSM documentation) for more information.
