Installation of approved conduit hubs or cable glands
CAUTION! Field installed openings! Drilling, milling or sanding these fibreglass
reinforced polyester (FRP) enclosures is not recommended!
Non-compliance may result in serious or even fatal injuries.
 For field-installed openings, use a hand punch or pneumatic type punch.
 Always wear safety glasses and protective clothing when working with fibreglass
material.
 If fibreglass powder or particles contact the skin, flush the affected area with cool
water, then wash with soap.
Conduit/cable installation
These non-metallic enclosures make it necessary for the metal cable gland and conduit hubs
to be bonded to the earthing system. This can be accomplished by installing them either
according to method 1 or method 2.
• Method 1:
Installation using a hole "through the enclosure" with a factory installed metal plate
with a threaded opening and "increased safety" earthing terminal. Metal plates must be
connected to the internal earthing system using jumper wires.
• Method 2:
Installation using a hole "through the enclosure" with an "increased safety" earthing
locknut instead of a rear metal plate.
All unused enclosure openings must be closed using approved stopping plugs with
standard locknuts.
6.2.2 Connecting Conductors
 Select suitable conductors that do not exceed the permissible heating temperature within
the enclosure.
 Ensure that conductors have the specified cross sections.
 Guide the conductor insulation so that it reaches the terminals.
 Do not damage the conductor when stripping the insulation (e.g. by denting it).
 Attach the core end sleeves properly.
There is an increased danger of heating if the terminal box is equipped with the maximum
number of terminals and conductors. This is also the case if it is loaded with the
maximum permissible current.
 Ensure that the length of a conductor does not exceed the length of the enclosure
diagonal. When doing so, the conductor is measured from the screw connection to the
clamping unit.
 Tighten all terminal blocks to the tightening torque values specified in table
(see chapter 6.2.3).
 Keep wires separated between different voltage systems.
 Ensure that the earthing conductor is connected between the "increased safety" terminals
on the metal plate or locknut and the earthing rail.
