Installing Peripheral Drives
To install a peripheral drive, you must first remove the peripheral assembly.
1. Power off the system, remove the access panel, and attach an antistatic wrist strap
as described in "Preparing for Installation" on page en-24.
2. Remove the peripheral assembly as follows (see
Note – This procedure is easier if the system is standing upright on its feet.
a. Remove the front peripheral bezel by pushing down on the depression on the
bezel top.
b. Remove the four screws that secure the peripheral assembly to the chassis.
c. Partially pull out the peripheral assembly from the chassis front.
d. Disconnect the data cables and power cables from any existing drives,
including the smart card reader.
e. Remove the peripheral assembly from the chassis.
3. Place the peripheral assembly on an antistatic mat.
4. If necessary, remove any metal filler panel from the peripheral bay to which you
are installing.
5. Position the new peripheral drive into the peripheral assembly.
6. Install the four screws that secure the peripheral drive to the peripheral assembly.
Note – If you are installing a diskette drive, you must remove the smart card reader
from the peripheral assembly to provide clearance for the diskette drive screws,
which are inserted into the bottom of the diskette drive.
