Das Vorbild
Ab Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts sorgten Straßenbahnen
für den schnellen und bequemen Personenverkehr in
europäischen Großstädten. Nachdem die Wagen anfangs
von Pferden gezogen wurden, stellten die meisten Städte
Ihre Straßenbahnen ab ca. 1900 auf Elektrotraktion um. Die
„Elektrische" gehörte in vielen Städten zum Stadtbild, bis
sie in vielen Fällen ab den 50er Jahren durch Busse ersetzt
wurde. Doch auch heute noch fahren in vielen Städten Eu-
ropas elektrische Straßenbahnen, und neue Stadtbahnlinien
tragen zur Lösung von Verkehrs- und Umweltproblemen bei.
Viele Straßenbahnen verfügen über Museumsfahrzeuge, die
bei besonderen Anlässen zu Sonderfahrten auf die Strecke
geschickt werden.
Das Vorbild des LGB-Modells wurde ab ca. 1900 von AEG/
Siemens gebaut und in zahlreichen Städten eingesetzt.

The Prototype
Starting in the mid-19th century, streetcars provided rapid
and comfortable transit in large cities all over the world. In
the beginning, the cars were pulled by horses, but starting
in 1900, most cities converted their streetcars to electric
power. Electric streetcars were part of the life in most cities,
until many of them were replaced by buses starting in the
1950s. But even today, streetcars continue to operate in
many European cities, and new „light rail" lines contri-
bute to solving traffic and environmental problems. Many
streetcar operations have museum streetcars that are run
on special occasions.
The LGB model is a replica of a prototype built by AEG/
Siemens starting around 1900.
