Equipment and Functional Principles

1.2.1 Basic Device

The Mikro-Dismembrator S can be operated with a
selectable shaking frequency for a definable time.
Continuous operation is also possible. An eccentric
wheel converts the rotation of the brushless drive into
reciprocation of the connector with the shaking flask.
At a given, constant shaking amplitude (16 mm) the
shaking frequency can be varied. For the Mikro-
Dismembrator S the range is within 100 ... 2.600
in continuous mode and within 100 ... 3.000
fixed operation times (timer mode). The shaking
frequency is controlled. Therefore, the set value is kept
constant during extended runs and with varying loads,
ensuring precise, reproducible experimental conditions.
The user can select short-term (timer mode) or
continuous operation.
The integrated timer permits adjustable operating times
in the range of 00:01 ... 98:59 [Min:Sec], continuous
operation is possible with time setting of 99:59
[Min:Sec].
For disintegration, the sample is filled into the shaking
flask together with the grinding balls and process
materials, if necessary. Due to the reciprocal movement
the components are accelerated and will bounce against
the inner wall of the flask and against each other. This
will disrupt the sample and, at the same time, provide a
homogeneous mixing of the sample.
The impact effect depends on the specific weight and
skin hardness of the grinding balls, for instance, and
changes with the material characteristics.
Increasing shaking frequency and higher specific weight
of the grinding ball both enhance the input.
The effectiveness of the disruption and homogenization
of the sample can be controlled by adding certain
process materials, such as quartz sand, chemical process
materials or dispersing agents. Dry samples, which are
treated without grinding balls, will be intensively mixed.
