4. The LCD Display
4.1 The Power supply is connected but no battery has been inserted: see Fig. 1.1
Only the small lamp symbol and the cylindrical cell slot surround, as well as the number of charging slot are
displayed.
4.2 Charging without defined discharging (cylindrical cells and 9 V-block): see Fig. 1.2
The power supply must be connected first, then batteries can be inserted into the respective slot(s). The
lamp symbol, the cylindrical cell surround, the charging slot number and at least one bar of those charge
slots where a battery has been inserted with correct polarity, will illuminate. If a 9 V-block is inserted, the
9 V-block symbol also appears. The ascending arrow ∧ above the charging slot number indicates the
charge.
If the chip recognises a battery as being fully charged the corrsponding slot changes to pulsed trickle
charge and the block symbol flashes. Charging of the 9 V-block battery is automatically finished by timer
after 14 hours and the 9 V-block symbol flashes.
4.3 Discharging/Charging
(charging with defined discharging, trickle charging – only cylindrical cells): see Fig. 1.3
Firstly, 1-4 cylindrical cells (batteries) are inserted into slots and then the power supply should be con-
nected. The lamp symbol, the cylindrical cell surround, the charging slot number and the bars (in those
charging slots where a battery has been inserted) illuminate. The descending arrow ∧ below the charging
slot number indicates the discharge mode.
If in one slot charging should start without discharge the battery has to be taken out of the box and to be
inserted once again. The LCD Display shows the charging process by an ascending arrow.
After pre-discharge each slot automatically switches to charging separately (ascending arrow) and after
"battery full" recognition switches to pulsed trickle charge (bars are flashing).
4.4 Undervoltage: see Fig. 1.4
If the power supply of the charger box drops below operating voltage, only the bar symbol and discharging
arrow ∨ will appear.
4.5 Short circuit recognition: see Fig. 1.5
After inserting a deeply discharged battery the Giga Box tries to regenerate it for 20 seconds. If, during this time
the voltage does not excede 0.5 V the display shows "short circuit".
If batteries are stored for a long time or are really deeply discharged these 20 seconds may not be sufficient.
After inserting the batteries for the second time the regenerating process is repeated and most of the times then
charging starts automatically.
If the display shows the "short circuit" symbol again the battery is really damaged (inner short circuit) and can
not be charged up. Charging in this slot stops.
