The impeller cavity, although it is self cleaning, requires regular
maintenance to remove dirt, slime and debris build-up to ensure
smooth running and to extend the life of the filter. The impeller and
impeller cavity (where the impeller is located) should be cleaned at
least once a month, more often if necessary.
To access the impeller, remove the pump chamber (located on the
underside of the filter cover) by pulling downwards. Remove the
impeller cover, and grasp the blades of the impeller to pull out the
impeller. Rinse impeller under running water and use a brush if
necessary to thoroughly clean the impeller and the impeller cavity to
remove slime, dirt or debris. Place the impeller back into the impeller
cavity. Replace the impeller cover, then re-attach the pump chamber.
If you have hard water, run the filter for a few minutes in a 50/50
solution of water and vinegar to help remove calcium and mineral
deposits before re-installing the filter on the tank.
