7.2. Cleaning the sediment bowl
Close the fuel tap (No.14, Fig. A).
Unscrew the cap (No.1, Fig. E) to drain the fuel.
Refit the cap.
Remove the sediment bowl (No.2, Fig. E) and the seal (No.3, Fig. E).
Wash the bowl with a non-flammable solvent or a solvent with a high flash point. Dry it completely.
Refit the seal and the bowl.
Open the fuel tap and check that there are no leaks.
7.3. Renewing the motor oil
To ensure that the oil drains quickly and completely, change the oil when the engine is still warm.
Remove the filler cap/dipstick (No.1, Fig. C) and the drain plug (No.3, Fig. C) and drain the oil into a suitable container.
On completion, screw in and tighten the drain plug.
Fill the engine oil sump with the recommended oil, then check the level.
Reposition the dipstick/filler plug and tighten.
Check that there are no oil leaks after filling.
Wipe off any trace of oil with a clean cloth.
7.4. Checking the spark plug
Remove the spark plug cap and use a spark plug spanner to remove the spark plug.
Visually inspect the spark plug and discard it if it has worn electrodes or melted or cracked insulation. If they are to be re-used,
clean the spark plugs with a metallic brush.
Measure the electrode gap with a feeler gauge. The electrode gap should be 0.70 to 0.80 mm. Check that the washer for each
spark plug is in good condition and screw in the spark plugs by hand to avoid damaging the threads.
After fitting the spark plug, tighten it with a spark plug spanner to compress the washer.
Note: when fitting a new spark plug, tighten it by 1/2 turn when in position, in order to compress the washer. When fitting a
previously fitted spark plug, tighten it by a 1/8 –1/4 turn after it is in position, in order to compress the washer.
7.5. Checking bolts, nuts and screws
Detailed checks of all of the nuts, bolts and screws must be performed every day in order to prevent any accidents or breakdowns.
Inspect the pump unit assembly before and after each use.
Tighten any loose nuts or bolts.
Note: The cylinder head bolts should be tightened by a specialist. Contact your local agent.
7.6. Cleaning the pump
Remove all dust and debris from around the exhaust and clean the pump unit using a cloth and a brush (cleaning with a water jet
is not recommended, and cleaning with high-pressure cleaning equipment is forbidden).
Carefully clean the engine air inlets and outlets.
Check the general condition of the pump unit and, if necessary, replace any faulty parts.
8. Storing the pump
A pump unit which is to remain unused for a long period of time must undergo certain procedures in order to keep it in good
condition. The pump unit should be stored in a clean and dry location.
Close the fuel tap (No.14, Fig.A), remove the sediment bowl (No.2, Fig.E) and empty it.
Open the fuel tap and drain the fuel from the tank into a suitable container.
Refit the sediment bowl and tighten fully.
Drain the carburettor by unscrewing the drain plug (No.1, Fig.E). Collect the fuel in a suitable container.
Change the engine oil.
Carry out the rinsing procedure then rinse the pipes correctly with fresh water.
Remove the spark plug (No.1, Fig. G) and pour approximately 15 ml of oil into the cylinder, then refit the spark plug.
Hold the starter handle (No.13, Fig. A) correctly, pull it slowly and fully several times in order to run the engine and distribute
the oil around the cylinder.
Clean the pump unit and cover the engine again to protect it from dust.
