4. Using the pump
4.1. Starting procedure
Never start the engine if the pump is empty. There must be liquid present in order to lubricate and prime the
pump (risk of damaging the seals).
Never run the engine without an air filter
Warning
Submerge the strainer into the liquid to be pumped up. If there is a risk of blockage, place the strainer on a stone surface.
Remove the filler plug (No.18, Fig. A) on the pump (No.6, Fig. A) and fill the pump body with liquid (Fig. B)
Screw the pump filler plug back on.
Open the fuel tap by turning the lever (No.14, Fig. A) to the right.
Move the choke tab (No.15, Fig. A) to the closed position (towards the left).
Note: Do not use the choke when the engine is warm or when the atmospheric temperature is high.
Move the gas lever (No.12, Fig. A) slightly towards the left and position the ignition switch (No.10, Fig. A) to "I".
Hold the starting handle (No.13, Fig. A) correctly, pull it slowly until some resistance is felt and then pull it hard. Do not release
the handle but return it slowly. If the engine has not started, repeat the procedure until the engine starts while gradually opening
the choke.
The engine starts and the pump discharges (if the pump does not discharge, switch off the unit and check the suction circuit).
4.2. Operation
When the engine begins to heat up, gradually bring the choke tab (No. 15, Fig. A) to the open position (towards the right).
After stabilising the engine speed, move the gas control lever (No.12, Fig. A) to the position for the desired speed.
The pump discharges liquid according to its speed but also according to its elevation, its lift and the type of liquid.
Warning: water hammer can seriously damage the pump.
Do not allow any vehicles to park on the discharge pipe.
Do not allow foreign bodies to enter the suction and discharge side while it is in operation.
4.3. Switching off
When the unit is turned off, the engine continues to give off heat.
Appropriate ventilation should be provided after the pump unit is turned off.
To stop the pump unit in an emergency, turn the engine switch to "O".
Warning
The liquid remaining in the pump may freeze and can damage the pump. It is therefore necessary to drain the
pump after it is used.
Reduce the engine speed to the minimum by moving the gas control lever (No. 12, Fig. A).
Move the ignition switch (No.10, Fig. A) to "О"; the unit will stop.
Close the fuel tap (No.14, Fig. A).
If the pump is not going to be used again during the day then rinse it.
4.4. Rinsing
After having followed the procedure for switching off:
Drain the pipes letting the liquid flow out.
Drain the liquid from the pump by unscrewing the drain plug (No.19, Fig. A) then retightening the plug.
Remove the filler plug (No.18, Fig. A) on the pump (No.6, Fig. A) and fill the pump body with fresh water (Fig. B)
Hold the starter handle (No.13, Fig. A) correctly, pull it slowly and fully several times in order to turn the pump.
Drain the water from the pump by unscrewing the drain plug.
Screw the drain/filler plug back on.
Clean the strainer.
