VTEMF – MAGNETIC FIELD DETECTOR
1. Introduction
Thank you for buying the VTEMF ! Read this manual carefully before bringing this device into service. The warranty
automatically becomes void if the user personally tries to repair or modify the device. The warranty also becomes
void in case of damage caused by inappropriate use or the disregard of standard safety prescriptions in general and
those in this manual in particular. Velleman Inc. does not accept responsibility for personal injury caused by the
disregard of the safety instructions in this manual. This also goes for all types of consequential loss.
2. EMF's
What are EMF's?
EMF stands for electromagnetic field. Low-frequency electromagnetic fields are usually associated with our common
household 50-60Hz current. EMF's are generated each time we use electricity.
The VTEMF detects the low-frequency fields commonly found in our homes, schools and our workplace.
Do EMF's affect us?
EMF's are invisible but we know they induce electrical currents within the body and have an adverse affect on our
cells. Various studies suggest that levels of 2 to 3mG are already hazardous to our health.
Scientists believe that levels in excess of 2.5mG increase the risk of cancer and other disorders such as birth
defects, learning disabilities, miscarriages, leukaemia in children, increased stress, depression, etc.
Where do we find EMF's?
1. high-voltage power lines
2. computer
3. television
4. microwave
5. washer/dryer
How can we reduce or avoid exposure to EMF's?
You can use the VTEMF to detect sources of EMF's, so you can reduce the risks and limit your exposure. Read the
tips below :
1. Use the electrical blanket to warm up the bed and turn it off when you go to bed.
2. Heat water beds before you go to bed.
3. Do not place electrical clocks, fans, radios or answering machines too close to the head of your bed.
4. Avoid placing a bed against the same wall as a refrigerator or fuse box.
5. Look at TV and computer screens from a safe distance.
3. Use
Put the slide switch in the ON position. Turn around slowly while holding the device in front of you so all directions
are checked.
a. a consistent reading of 1, 3, 6, 10mG throughout the room suggests an external EMF source (e.g. power lines).
b. occasional peak values or so-called "hot spots" suggest an internal source of EMF e.g. wiring or appliances.
