There are two methods of checking the masks with RA, PE and
ESA connections:
— with connected breathing apparatus or respirator filter
— without breathing filter or breathing apparatus. This check
does not include the tight fit of the connection between mask
and breathing apparatus or mask and respirator filter.
Leak test with breathing filter or breathing apparatus con-
nected:
RA
Screw breathing apparatus or respirator filter into
PE
the connection piece until it is tightly seated.
Either use your thumb to close the medium pressure
hose or the heel of your hand to close the filter
opening.
Inhale, then hold your breath. No entry of air should
be perceived, otherwise check the fit of the mask.
The exhaled air must escape through the exhalation
valve without resistance.
Repeat the tight fit test twice.
Connect self-contained breathing apparatus or line
breathing apparatus, if necessary.
ESA
Insert breathing apparatus or screw respirator filter
into the connection piece until it is tightly seated.
Turn and pull the breathing apparatus to check for
tight fit. Have a second person check the firmness
and correct connection.
