Risk of injury from tissue damage!
Physiological monitoring equipment used on the patient at the same time as the electrosurgery can
interfere with the HF energy.
• Attach monitoring electrodes as far away from the HF electrodes as possible.
• Do not use needle electrodes for monitoring purposes.
Tissue damage may occur in procedures where the HF current flows through parts of the body with a
small cross-section! For example, this applies to bony areas covered with poorly conducting epidermis.
The use of a bipolar technique can also be sensible to avoid undesirable coagulations.
• Do not apply above bony protrusions or scar tissue.
• Select areas of high conductivity between the active electrode and neutral electrode for a good flow of
current.
Risk of fire or explosion from flammable or explosive substances!
Materials saturated with oxygen, such as cotton, gauze or insulating blankets, may catch fire from the
sparks that occur during the intended use of the electrosurgical unit. For example, if during monopolar
coagulation the active electrode is only slightly in contact with tissue, sparking can be observed between
the tissue and electrode as intended. Sparks in the vicinity of flammable gases (e.g. explosive anesthetic
gases) can lead to explosions.
There is the additional risk of accumulation of flammable liquids under the patient or in anatomical
cavities and recesses.
• Never use the instruments in the presence of combustible or explosive substances!
Risk of burns and/or device failure resulting from improper use!
Improper handling can be detrimental to the function and product lifespan of the monopolar electrode.
• Protect the monopolar electrodes from mechanical damage: do not throw or drop them and do not
exert force!
