INSTRUCTIONS PERTAINING TO A RISK OF FIRE, ELECTRIC
SHOCK, OR INJURY TO PERSONS
IMPORTANT SAFETY
INSTRUCTIONS
WARNING - This appliance is NOT waterproof and MUST be
protected from coming in contact with water.
WARNING - Disconnect the plug of the light unit, and any other
electrical equipment, used for the terrarium, paludarium or aqua-
terrarium before placing your hands in the water; and/or performing
any maintenance of any kind. Do not handle plug or appliance with
wet hands.
WARNING - Whenever installing, removing, changing or maintaining
bulbs always ensure that the device is unplugged.
WARNING - To guard against injury, basic safety precautions should
be observed when handling the Exo Terra
including the following:

to do so may result in damage to the unit.
2. Always unplug an appliance from an outlet when not in use,
before putting on or taking off parts, and before cleaning. Never
yank cord to pull plug from outlet. Grasp the plug and pull
to disconnect.
3. This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including
children) with reduced physical sensory or mental capabilities,
or lack of experience or knowledge, unless they have been
given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance
by a person responsible for their safety. Children should be
supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.
4. To avoid injury, do not contact hot parts, allow to cool down
before handling.
5. Do not use the appliance for other than intended use. The use
of attachments not recommended or sold by the appliance
manufacturer may cause an unsafe condition.
6. Do not install or store the appliance where it will be exposed to
weather or to temperatures below freezing.
7. The safety of this appliance is guaranteed only provided that the
light unit is properly installed. Ensure that the Terrarium Fixture is
securely attached to the terrarium glass.
8. Damaged bulbs or bulbs that do not function properly have to be
removed immediately.
9. Provide sufficient ventilation. Never cover the bulb or vent.
10. CAUTION: Hot surfaces. Avoid contact while fixture is
in operation.
11. CAUTION: Keep the Terrarium Fixture away from curtains and
other flammable objects when in operation. Never install the
fixture near flammable objects.
12. The housing of this fixture may only be opened by authorized
Terrarium Fixture,
®
personnel or by the manufacturer.
13. Switch off the lamp and allow to cool for 10 minutes before
performing any maintenance of any kind, cleaning or re-lamping,
in the terrarium.
14. A short power supply cord is provided to reduce the risk resulting
from becoming entangled in or tripping over a longer cord. If
an extension cord is necessary, a cord with a proper rating
should be used. A cord rated for less amperes or watts than the
appliance rating may overheat. Care should be taken to arrange
the cord so that it will not be tripped over or pulled.
15. DANGER – To avoid possible electrical shock, special care
should be taken. For each of the following situations, do not
attempt repairs yourself; return the appliance to an authorized
service facility for service or discard the appliance:
A. If the appliance falls into the water, DON'T reach for it! First
unplug it and then retrieve it. If the electrical components of the
appliance get wet, unplug the appliance immediately.
B. Carefully examine the appliance after installation. It should not
be plugged in if there is water on parts not intended to be wet.
C. Do not operate any appliance if it has a damaged electrical cord
or plug, or if it is malfunctioning or if it is dropped or damaged
in any manner. The power cord of this appliance cannot be
replaced: if the cord is damaged, the appliance should be
discarded. Never cut the cord.
D. To avoid the possibility of the appliance plug
or electrical outlet getting wet, position the
appliance to one side of a wall mounted outlet
to prevent water from dripping onto the outlet
or plug. A "drip-loop" should be arranged. The
"drip-loop" is that part of the cord below the
level of the unit and the outlet, or the connector
if an extension cord is used, to prevent water
from traveling along the cord and coming in
contact with the outlet or light unit. If the plug
or outlet does get wet, DON'T unplug the
electrical cord. Disconnect the fuse or circuit breaker that
supplies power to the appliance, then unplug and examine for
presence of water in the outlet.

electrical equipment, used for the terrarium, paludarium or
aqua-terrarium before placing your hands in the water; and/or

always ensure that the fixture is unplugged.

Only the dedicated observation of these installation, electrical and
maintenance guidelines will ensure the safe and efficient use of
this appliance.
INSTALLATION OF LIGHTING UNIT (p. 2)
1. Clean the outside surface of the terrarium glass
2. With the protective backing still intact, place the self-adhesive
support base on the back or the side of the terrarium to
determine its final position.
3. Mark the position with a wax pencil or other marker.
