WARNING: The lift lever is spring loaded. Make
sure the lift lever is locked in the LEVEL
ADJUSTMENT position.
5. Loosen the left and right adjuster knobs (B)
(Figure 33). Push down on each side of the mower
housing. Make sure both sides of the mower housing
are sitting on a flat surface. Also, make sure the lift
links (A) are loose and can easily move up or down.
6. Push down on the lift links (A) and tighten the left and
right adjuster knobs (B) (Figure 33). Make sure the
adjuster knobs (B) are tight. If necessary, use a wrench
to tighten the adjuster knobs (B). For plastic adjuster
knobs (B), tighten to a torque of 7 foot pounds (9,5
Nm). For metal adjuster knobs (B), tighten to a torque
of 10 foot pounds (13,5 Nm).
7. Raise the lift lever (A) from the LEVEL ADJUSTMENT
position to a CUTTING HEIGHT position (Figure 34).
8. If equipped, install the gauge wheels.
9. Mow for a short distance. If the height of cut is not
level, repeat the above steps.
CAUTION: Do not operate with the mower housing in the
LEVEL ADJUSTMENT position. If you operate in the LEVEL
ADJUSTMENT position, the mower housing and blades can
be damaged.
How to Replace the Motion Drive Belt
Removal:
1. Remove the mower housing. See the instructions on
"How to Remove the Mower Housing".
2. Remove the mid-idler pulley (M) (Figure 37).
3. Disconnect the idler spring (E, G).
4. Remove the idler pulley (A) and spacer (B, D).
5. Remove the V-idler pulley (C, H) and spacer (B, D).
6. Remove the motion drive belt (L) from the drive
pulley (F).
7. To remove the motion drive belt (B) from the stack
pulley (A), pull the front end of the belt under the stack
pulley and then back between the stack pulley and the
steering plate (D) (Figure 35).
8. Remove the access panel (D) (Figure 36).
9. Remove the two screws (A) that attach the steering
shaft assembly (B) (Figure 36). Raise the steering
wheel and steering shaft assembly (B). Pull the motion
drive belt under the steering shaft assembly (B).
10. Remove the motion drive belt (C). A correct
replacement part or assistance is available from an
Authorized Service Center in your area.

Installation:
1. Slide the motion drive belt (B) between the stack
pulley (A) and the belt guides (C) (Figure 35). Install
the motion drive belt (B) on the top pulley of the stack
pulley (A). Make sure the "V" side of the belt is against
the pulley.
2. Push the motion drive belt (B) through the opening
between the steering plate (D) and the engine plate.
3. Install the end of the motion drive belt (L) around the
drive pulley (F) (Figure 37).
4. Put the motion drive belt (L) around the V-idler pulley
(C, H). Install the motion drive belt (L), V-idler pulley
(C, H) and spacer (B, D).
5. Put the belt around the idler pulley (A). Fasten the
idler pulley (A) and spacer (B, D) with the hex nut.
Make sure the flat side of the belt is against the idler
pulley (A). Also, make sure the belt is not twisted.
6. Connect the idler spring (E) (Figure 37).
7. Install the mid-idler pulley (M).
8. Check the routing of the motion drive belt (L)
(Figure 37). Make sure the motion drive belt (L) is
installed correctly on the idler pulleys (A) and inside all
belt guides (J, K).
9. Attach the steering shaft assembly (B) to the steering
plate with two screws (Figure 36).
10. Attach the access panel (D) (Figure 36).
11. Install the mower housing. See the instructions "How
to Install the Mower Housing".
How to Replace the Primary Mower Drive Belt
1. Remove the mower housing. See the instructions on
"How To Remove The Mower Housing".
2. Remove the screws (A) from the pulley cover (B).
Remove the pulley cover (Figure 38).
3. To remove the primary mower drive belt (C) from the
left mandrel pulley (D), slide the primary mower drive
belt (C) between the left mandrel pulley (D) and the
belt guides (E).
4. Pull the belt retainer (J) away from the idler pulley
(G). Remove the primary mower drive belt (C) from
the idler pulley.
5. Move the brake pad assembly (K) away from the stack
pulley (F). Remove the primary mower drive belt (C)
from the stack pulley (F).
NOTE: Replace the primary mower drive belt with an
original equipment belt from an authorized service
center.
