In automatic mode, a sensor in the Traveler measures the amount of dust or particles in
the surrounding air. This sensor controls the operation of the Traveler, turning the fan on
or off and selecting the correct speed as required.
To operate the unit:
• Connect the Traveler to a power source. Use the AC adapter/connector for 110-volt
operation in a home or office. Use the 12-volt connector in an automobile. The 12-volt
connector is designed to plug into a standard automobile cigarette lighter/accessory socket.
In some automobiles, the unit will operate when the ignition key is inserted and turned to
accessory mode. It will turn off automatically when the key is removed.
• Press the POWER button to activate the unit. The power indicator light will be
illuminated at all times when the unit is active.
• Press the MODE button to select the operating mode. Each press of this button selects
a different mode: manual low speed, manual high speed, automatic operation.
When the Traveler is activated, the LOW, HIGH, or AUTO panel light will be illuminated to
indicate the current mode setting.
When illuminated, the ION light indicates that the Traveler's negative-ion generator is
active.
If the FILTER indicator light illuminates during operation, the filter requires replacing.

CLEANING AND REPLACING FILTERS

Clean the prefilter and replace the filter cylinder whenever the FILTER indicator is lighted.
CAUTION: before cleaning or replacing the filters, make sure the unit is unplugged.
• To gain access to the filters, press gently on both ends of the grille at the right side of
the unit (the side near the panel buttons). Remove the grille.
• The interior surface of the grille contains the prefilter pad. For optimum results this pad
should be cleaned monthly. Remove the prefilter and wash it gently in warm water. Rinse
thoroughly and allow to air dry, away from sunlight. CAUTION: make sure that the prefilter
pad is completely dry before reassembling the unit.
• Unscrew and withdraw the interior filter cylinder. This component comprises the second-
stage and third-stage filters. Discard this cylinder and replace it with a new component.
CAUTION: do not attempt to wash or clean this filter. Replacement is required.
• Make sure that the prefilter pad is in place on the end grille. Replace the grille by
pressing into place.
If the filter change indicator light remains illuminated after filter replacement, reset this
function. Press and hold both the POWER and MODE buttons, together, for about 10
seconds, then release.
