COMMON DAMAGE
For decades that we have been practicing, manufacturing and repairing
Boards, we have noticed recurring damages on all types of Boards. 99%
of them are avoidable, so to avoid them, you have to be aware of them:
The little ding on the ground: the great classic of the corner of the
trunk, the gate, the Board flying away on the parking lot, the Board
crushed by the straps on the roof racks, the Board escaping from the
hands... in short, these little dings are not serious but spoil the session.
Count between 30€ and 70€ in general.
The ding in the water: we usually think of the impact with another Board, with a rock, but the biggest source
of dings on the water is the one that comes from the rider himself. You rarely realize how hard you hit the Board
when you fall. The wetsuit protects and the mind is distracted by the fall. We often see huge knee or elbow
impact marks on the hulls, and people have no memory of it. Nothing very serious in general, count there also
between 30€ and 70€.
Fins torn off: The Fins are very solid, but they have their limit. For example, when you get too close to shore,
the Fins touch and then they pop out or the box breaks. You have the impression that it's nothing, but your kite
pulls several hundred kg laterally and a wave pushes even harder... A Fin should never touch the ground. So,
don't go hunting clams with it by scraping the bottom until you are a beached whale;-) It will cost you between
70€ and 150€ per box!
The Board pushed under your feet: the force of jumping, pushing into the Board, the strat, as solid as it is,
ends up telling you "enough". It needs reinforcement, a re-gluing, and it must be done quickly because a soft
deck is often the beginning of a more serious break that will spread. Some technologies mark up very quickly
like PU, but without gravity. Sandwich rarely marks but requires a serious repair.
Overheated Boards: in the sun, in the car, in the plane, your Board did not like the extreme air expansion it
has just undergone. Part of the lamination has come undone. This is serious, very serious. Even on a small area,
it's a big job because often the Board has been burnt. Count between 150€ and 300€.
The Board folded or in two: "but I didn't do anything" is often the cause of the problem. A folded Board is often
a lack of reaction. Either by cushioning a landing, avoiding the lip, or jumping before the nose sticks to the bottom
for example. In the surf culture, a Board broken in two is synonymous with beautiful waves and commitment,
and thus lived "positively". Beware, thin and long Boards like longboards are very sensitive to these damages.
It is a serious problem, to be repaired immediately, and which costs a lot of money: between 150€ and 300€.
TIP: they say: "a Board standing upright is a broken Board".
STRAP INSERTS
Some Boards may be equipped with foot straps. You have to screw them on
with the washers and specific screws provided. The screw goes through the
washer, then through the strap, then into the hole of the insert you have chosen
according to your stance. Our basic recommendation is to put everything in the
middle of each insert. The standard distance between the two screws is 17cm.
Tightening the screws is crucial. A loose screw will tear the inside of the insert.
Use the appropriate screwdriver with PZ2 tip to avoid screw failure. A screw
that has been screwed out must be changed immediately.
