Drive Unit Installation Example
Item Description
Stroke distance from one end stop to the other.
notE: This example provides for 5 mm on either side of the end stops to safely stay within the 11.93 in. (303 mm)
limit
(page
5).
End stops.
notE: The range of the drive unit must be limited by end stops, or damage to the drive unit will occur.
Distance from the base of the drive-unit mount to the drag link/tiller pin when the rudder is amidships.
Understanding the Rudder Angle in Relationship to the offset Distance
Because the drive unit is limited to a travel distance of 11.93 in. (303 mm) from fully retracted to fully extended (11.54 in. (293 mm) from end stop to end
stop in the example), the rudder angle of your boat is an important consideration when planning the connection of the drive unit to the tiller arm. For boats
with larger rudder angles, the drive unit must connect to the tiller arm closer to the rudder post so that the drive unit does not extend beyond the specified
distance limit.
NOTE: The maximum achievable torque on the rudder from the drive unit is lower on boats with larger rudder angles.
