when pulling down the brakes progressively, the
Parachutal stall:
OMEGA 4 will slow down and, flying slower than the minimum speed,
will perform a parachutal stall, and a full stall. There is no stable
parachutal phase with the brake or following a B line stall.
The OMEGA 4 has a high propensity to reopen itself following the
Closures:
closures that may be found whilst flying in normal conditions. It is always
preferable to pilot actively so that any movements of the canopy do not
become amplified thus impeding the ability of the glider to fly.
the polar curve of the OMEGA 4 is
Flying with the speed system:
very flat. The best glide is achieved between hands high (38 km/h) and
half speed system (45 km/h). When flying cross country or in
competitions, it is important to utilise the efficiency and speed of the
OMEGA 4. As speed increases, stability decreases. When using the speed
system in turbulent air, be ready to come off the speed system, the
moment you have a collapse.
To simulate a small asymmetric closure, pull down 1 outer suspension
line connected to the front riser. The canopy will reopen automatically
with only a small tendency to turn. An active piloting will allow the
direction of the canopy to be controlled; apply a light countering to the
harness and a gentle braking to the side that is not deflated. If ever the
canopy does not reopen automatically, a generous brief pumping
action will reopen the canopy.
This is achieved by gradually braking on one
Spiral Dive (360° ):
side until approx 50% and then maintaining this position. The speed of
the rotation increases and the pilot experiences the strong centifugal
force.
Raise the brake gradually to stop the spiral and then apply both brakes
to 30% to prevent a large dive.
Take the B risers by the small quick links (where they
B line stall:
connect with the suspension lines). Pull them firmly and symmetri-
cally downwards. The canopy will stop and then descend vertically at
6-7 m/s. Raise the hands gradually and when approximately 15 cms
from the normal flying position let go of the risers. The canopy will re-
inflate, dive to regain speed and then regain its normal flight
characteristics within 2-3 seconds.
The B line stall presents some risks with the high aspect ratio gliders if
it is not perfectly and symmetrically entered into and exited from. This
has to be considered as a emergency manœvre.
