The
key activatesthe device. Four tones let you
SPELL
know the device is ON and working — the window will
ON
show "SPELL A." Four levelsof difficulty are available,
andareselected b ypressing @ , @
when the window shows "SPELL A. " "SPELL A" means
that the Speak & Spell learning aid is ready and will select
words from the Level A list. Difficulty increases from
Level A through Level D. (See "Word List.")

to begin. Your child is directed to "spell

spell the word.
When the spelling of the word is complete, your child

spella new word. If the spellingis incorrect,the child will
be asked to try again. If the child's second attempt is
incorrect, the word is pronounced and the correct spelling
shown.
After each group of ten words, the score is displayed. The
voice tells how many words were spelled correctly on the
first try, and how many were wrong.
The @ REPLAY key provides you withthe samelistof ten
REPLAY

If your child makesa mistakeor wantsto try againbefore
pressing O ENTER, press S ERASE.
Pressing the @ SAY ITkey starts the SAY IT, SPELLIT
activity. The window will show "SAY IT A." (Another
level o f difficulty canbeselected b ypressing @ , @
or @ .) Thisactivityis designed to providepractice in
reading, enunciating, and spelling words.
Press @ to begin. A wordwillappear i n thewindow and
your child will be instructed to "say it." After a short
pause for the child to say the word, the word is
pronounced. A new word then appears.
