Notes
• If you insert the sound on
the stereo 2 track of the
picture under the following
conditions, the inserted
sound will be muted even
if you select to listen to
both stereo 1 and stereo 2
sounds:
You make the player VCR
enter the playback pause
mode, or slow or high-
speed playback, and then
record that picture on this
VCR with the DV
connection.
• When the tape is carried
out DV dubbing using a
domestic DV equipment to
playback, you might not to
be able to edit the tape with
editing equipment for
business use such as the
DSR-80/85. If you want to
edit using such equipment,
carry out dubbing again
using it to record.
Audio recording mode
• In the DVCAM format, the sound is recorded in either 16bit (Fs48k)
or 12bit (Fs32k) mode.
– The 16bit (Fs48k) mode uses the whole audio area to record one
stereo track. You can get higher sound quality.
– The 12bit (Fs32k) mode separates the audio area into 2 parts. You
can record two kinds of audio, stereo 1 and stereo 2.
• The audio recording mode of the tape is shown by the PCM MODE
indicators on the operation panel. (page 49)
– The audio recording mode is decided as follows:
When recording from the DV jack: the sound is recorded in the
same audio mode as the source tape.
– When recording from the LINE IN connectors: you can select the
audio mode by setting AUDIO MODE in the SET UP MENU. (page
21)
About DV connection, etc.
DV connection
The DV jack transmits video and audio signals in digital form.
The video and audio signals are sent with hardly any degradation,
enabling high-quality editing. The signal flow is automatically detected
so you need not make separate connections for input and output.
• The DV jack of this VCR outputs playback video and audio signals
only. Signals from the VCR's line inputs are not output from the DV
jack.
• With the DV connection, the sound is recorded in the same audio
recording mode as that of the source tape. To record in a different
audio recording mode from the source tape, use the LINE connection
instead.
• With the DV connection, tape information (recording date, camcorder
data, etc.) recorded on the source tape is transmitted from the other
VCR (player). As a result, when you play back a recorded tape and
press DATA CODE, the same tape information recorded on the
source tape is displayed on the monitor screen. However, contents of
the cassette memory are not transmitted. In addition, the time code is
newly recorded on the tape on this VCR, except when copying a tape
in Duplicate mode.
• The functions working during playback such as on-screen display
and Wide PB cannot be transmitted with the DV connection. To
enable such a function, use the LINE connection.
