Pressure Relief Valves
Your kayak is equipped with a pressure relief valves on the air chambers. Should the pressure
in any chamber exceed the recommended rating, this valve will open slightly to release some
pressure and avoid possible damage. You may hear a slight hiss should this occur. Care should
be taken to not damage this valve and it should not be tampered with.
NOTE: Do not remove the RED valve cap and always ensure the cap is securely hand tightened
for proper performance. Inflation and Deflation of the Air Chambers should always be done
through the Boston valves only.
Pressure Relief Valve Maintenance
The PR (pressure relief) valve is a high-performance pressure relief system that can benefit from
some very simple periodic maintenance to ensure optimal performance. Additionally, in cases where
your kayak is used in saltwater and/or sandy areas; sand, grit, and salt can build up and prevent
the PR valve from working properly. To maintain optimal performance in all conditions, it is
recommended that the PR valve be removed and cleaned periodically to ensure proper function.
To Properly Maintain your PR Valve:
1. Deflate the air-chamber that the PR valve is attached to (e.g. the inflatable floor). Unscrew the
PR valve from its base by hand, turning it counter-clockwise.
2. Once removed, place the PR valve in a cup of warm soapy water for 5 minutes.
3. While submerged in the cup of water, depress the white spring-loaded center of the valve to
dislodge any sand or grit.
4. Remove from water, dry with a cloth and reattach to the valve base by screwing in clockwise.
PR Valve: The spring-loaded
center is located at the bottom
of the threaded section.
