INSERTING/REPLACING BATTERIES/RECHARGE-
ABLE BATTERIES
-
Open the battery compartment on the back of the housing and insert three bat-
teries of type AA/Mignon, observing the correct polarity. The correct polarity is
indicated in the battery compartment.
 
The LIGHT battery compartment (9) takes the batteries for the illumination.
The CLOCK battery compartment (10) takes the batteries for the clock.
-
Close the battery compartment again.
-
A change of battery for the clock is required when the display contrast fades or
the display (1) no longer works.
-
A change of battery for the light is required when the brightness of the illumina-
tion fades or the illumination no longer works.
 
If nothing is shown in the display after installing the battery, press the RE-
SET button (6) with a pointed object (e.g. with a bent paper clip). If still noth-
ing is displayed after that, the battery in the CLOCK battery compartment
(10) is decharged. Please replace it as described above.
Rechargeable batteries may be used, but due to the lower voltage output
(rechargeable battery = 1.2V, standard battery = 1.5V) and the lower capac-
ity, the service life is shorter.
INITIAL START UP
-
Shortly after the batteries are inserted, the fi rst reception search for the DCF
signal occurs. The reception symbol appears on the display and after a success-
ful DCF reception the correct time will be displayed.
-
Reception display:
no reception
poor
 
The detection of the DCF signal and its evaluation may take several minutes.
Do not move the clock during this time. Do not press any buttons!
Bad reception can be caused, for example, by metalized insulated glass, rein-
forced concrete buildings, coated special wallpapers, proximity to electronic
devices, or installation in cellars.
If the current time is not displayed after 10 minutes, change the position of
the radio alarm clock and start a manual attempt to detect the signal (see
next chapter).
This will start a new reception attempt.
