Leak detection

The escaping gas quantity determines the width of spread – as
described in 8.3. Since the width of spread is unknown, however,
every joint spot along the accessible pipe parts must be checked. If
the device sensor head enters the "gas cloud", the light gas diffuses
in the sensor head and effects the gas-sensitive semiconductor.
Depending on the concentration of the gas, 2-3 seconds are required
for the measuring process. In practice, this means: Quickly checking
the screw attachment or the fitting with hemp thread is not enough to
detect small quantities of escaping gas.

„Feeling round" the pipe with the gas detector

In practice, slow „feeling round" the joint spots has proved its worth.
Even small bubbles escaping are most likely to be found this way.

Brief instructions

Important note: For all details, e.g. light or signal ON/OFF , calibration
or how to charge the device, the detailed operating instructions must
always be consulted.
Switch on by pressing this switch (only in a gas-free atmosphere)
After switch-on, the LCD display flashes for around 50 seconds during
the heat-up phase and indicates H2 and HEAt alternately.
After the heat-up phase has been completed, the display shows 0
ppm. Measurements can now be started.
When a concentration is measured, the display first increases to 999
ppm, then switches to Vol.% at 0.1 Vol.%. The lower explosion limit
message is indicated at values of over 4.0 Vol.%.
This is confirmed by a permanent acoustic signal. Display and signal
cannot be deleted by moving to "clean air". The device should be
switched off in a gas-free atmosphere.
Note: In the event of a lower explosion limit message and permanent
acoustic signal, there could be an explosive gas-air mixture present.
Switch off: Keep the ON/OFF button pressed for 2 seconds.
