ENGLISH - TECHNICAL INFORMATION
MILLENNIUM REEL
The Millennium reel was designed for the sport
of fencing. It may be used with a 48V maximum
voltage and a 0.5A maximum current.
The reel features a centrifugal brake that
reduces the cable rewinding speed when the
fencer releases it at a distance, thus avoiding
damage to the cable at the end of the reel run.
The reel must be used only in the horizontal
position - any different inclination may cause an
irregular brake intervention.
The follow are instructions for replacing the
cable and spring units. Reference is made to
figures on pages 4-5.
1. Cable Replacement
These instructions should be followed in order:
P1- Unscrew the 4 largest screws on the bottom
of the reel and lift the cover.
P2- Release the spring tension according to the
following procedure:
2a- Hold steady the D2 coil with the cable (see
Fig. D, pag. 5).
2b- Hold the cable steady at position D1 (Fig. D)
and slowly pull it out for one turn. CAUTION: see
Note 1.
2c- Slowly release the coil in order to rewind the
free cable.
2d- Repeat steps 2a-2b-2c until the springs are
totally released and there is still one free cable
turn.
P3- Remove the cable from the fencer's end
socket and from the coil as follows:
3a- Unscrew the 4 screws on the fencer's end
socket and open the socket (see Fig. A, pag. 4).
3b- Pull out the bush block and unsolder the
three wires from it (Caution: see Note 2).
3c- Loosen the cable fastener, undo the knot and
take off any remaining pieces (cable, protective
tube and spring). Unthread the
cable from the D1 guide (see Fig. D) and
completely unwind it from the coil.
3d- Unsolder the 3 cable wires from the C3
printed circuit board (Fig. C), placed over the
cable winding coil.
3e- Loosen the C1 cable fastener nut (Fig. C).

Finally, unthread and take off the cable.
P4- Install the new cable as follows:
4a- Thread one of the new cable's ends through
the C2 ring. Make sure it reaches the C3 printed
circuit board (Fig. C).
4b- Remove the boot on the last 2-3cm of the
cable and cut the Kevlar yarn. Remove 2-3mm
insulation from the three wires and then solder
them to the printed circuit board, following the
color scheme in figure C (see Note 2).
4c- Fasten the cable with the cable fastening nut
in C1 (Fig. C). Keep the coil stable and wind all
the cable on it in a clockwise direction. keep 1
meter unwound.
4d- Thread the free cable's end on the D1 guide
(Fig. D). Insert the spring and the old (or better if
new) protective tube. Leave the last 3 cm of the
cable uncovered by the protective tube (see Fig. A).
4e- Remove the boot on the last 3cm of the
cable and then make a tight knot on the last
part of the cable, which is covered by the
protective tube.
4f- Remove 2-3mm insulation from the three
wires and then solder them on the bush block
following the color scheme. See A2 (Fig. A).
4g- Insert the spring to its seat and fasten the
cable with the provided fastener. Insert the bush
block and make sure that the wires are properly
fitted. Close the socket by first tightening the 2
screws next to the cable exit and then the other
2 screws that lock the fastener for the spring-
hook. Finally, reattach the A1 retaining clip (Fig.
A).
P5- Reapply spring tension. Wind the free cable
while leaving 1 meter unwound. Hold steadily
the cable next to the D2 coil and turn clockwise
together for 10 turns. This will wind the springs.
CAUTION: see Note 1.
IMPORTANT: Wind the springs for a minimum of
9 turns and a maximum of 10 turns. If wound for
less than 10 turns, the spring's life decreases.
P6- Verify conductivity. Before finishing, use a
tester to verify the proper conductivity between
each bush of the fencer's end socket and its
correspondent at the bottom of the reel case.
The electric resistance between the bushes
should be lower than 3 ohm.
P7- Replace the cover. Use the 4 screws from
