7. Operation

Loading
1. Approach the drum to be loaded centrally with the drum lifter.
2. Push the forks under the drum until they stop.
3. Ensure the drum is securely held.
4. Lift the load using the foot pedal or the crank handle.
Drum transport
- Pull/push the drum lifter using the handle to the new location.
- Drums should only be slightly raised when being transported.
- Do not exceed walking speed (3,6km/h).
- Do not change direction or slow down suddenly.
- Prevent the load from swinging.
- Ensure the drum lifter is on stable ground.
- Only use flooring which is level, even and can support the weight.
Do not go down slopes.
Setting down the drum
Use the foot operated lowering valve to slowly set the load down.
For lifting gear which has a cable winch, lower the load by turning the crank handle slowly anti-clockwise.
Faults (drum lifter with hydraulics)
If the drum lifter does not lift the load, there may be air bubbles in the hydraulic system. The procedure for
removal of air bubbles is described in section 5 (Setting up and initial operation).

8. Maintenance and repair

General
To guarantee safe working with the product the following checks and maintenance are necessary:
-
Regular visual inspections and operational checks at intervals of max. one year by a technical specialist.
Ensure these set intervals are observed. Long term exposure and high levels of dust, contamination and
damp will mean that maintenance and cleaning intervals must be shortened.
A regular check for ease of movement of the moving parts and if necessary lubricate with
-
commercially-available grease, including the load chain.
The scope of the checks for a visual inspection and function test includes breaks, deformities, cracks,
-
damage, wear, corrosion damage and operational faults of the drum lifter.
-
An inspection report log is to be compiled and kept by the operator as proof that the checks have been
carried out.
Additional tests should be carried out by a qualified technician in the event of damage or particular
-
incidents that could influence carrying capacity and after any repairs.
Before visual inspections and operational checks, cleaning of the drum lifter may be necessary. This
-
particularly applies if the forks have been contaminated during use by materials such as dyes and salts.
Also observe BGV D8.
-
Drum lifter with hydraulics:
Regularly check the hydraulic system oil level and for leaks. If necessary tighten the screws or change the
seals if oil is leaking. If filling with oil is needed ensure hydraulic oil meeting ISO VG 46 is used. Only
qualified personnel should do this.
The load chain should be checked along its entire length, even where parts are hidden.
If the following damage is detected on the chain, the drum lifter must no longer be used:
a) Any lengthening of the chain or individual links
b) Breakage of a link
c) Cracks in a link
d) Deformation of a link
e) Wear where the bolts are fitted
