The component tester facilitates the best results for comparative measurements with safeunctioning
components. This is an ideal approach to easily detect anomalies in the characteristic curve.
Components in the circuit can also be tested. However, this may lead to a deviation of the charac-
teristic curve of individual components due to the parallel connection of real and complex variables.
pACKAGE CONTENTS
• Component tester I-V-Curve
• Power adapter
• 2 test probes with removable cover caps
• 2 alligator clamps
• Carrying bag
• Operating instructions
DESCRIpTION OF INDIVIDUAL pARTS
1 Socket for power supply
2 Operation indicator
3 Measurement input "Plus"
4 Measurement input "Ground"
5 BNC output "X"
6 BNC output "Y"
7 Measuring probes
8 Removable cover caps
SETTINGS ON THE OSCILLOSCOpE
Turn the oscilloscope on. Allow the oscilloscope to warm up for about 20 minutes according to
the specifications in the operating instructions. This prevents the oscilloscope from drifting while
warming up.
Set the input coupling of channel 1 and 2 to ground (GND).
Locate the beam in mid-position and adjust focus and intensity as needed.
Switch to X-Y mode, and then readjust the intensity of the beam, if needed.
Locate the indicated spot beam in mid-position.
Set the vertical controls of channel 1 (X) and channel 2 (Y) at 5 V/div.
Set the input coupling of channel 1 and channel 2 to "DC".
CONNECT AND START
Connect the BNC output "X" (5) marked red to the measuring input "X" on the oscilloscope. Usually
this is channel 1.
Connect the BNC output "Y" (6) marked blue to the measuring input "Y" on the oscilloscope. Usually
this is channel 2.
Connect the appropriate measuring equipment (test probes or alligator clamps) to the measuring
inputs (3 and 4) on the component tester with the correct colours in mind.
Connect the included power adapter to the socket (1) of the power supply.
Connect the power adapter to a mains socket.
The power indicator (2) will light up and measuring can take place.
Also allow the component tester to warm up for approx. 20 minutes. This prevents the oscilloscope
from drifting while warming up.
Once measurements have been taken, proceed in reverse order to separate the components from
each other.
CHARACTERISTIC CURVE EXAMpLES
The following outlines are intended to provide an overview of possible characteristics.
Characteristics may vary depending on the impedance of the measuring inputs on the oscilloscope.
The best results for comparing measurements are achieved with properly functioning components.
Resistance
Capacitance
Inductance
Diode
Zener diode
CLEANING
Always observe the following safety instructions before cleaning the device:
L ive components may be exposed if the covers are opened or parts are removed,
unless this can be done manually without tools.
p rior to cleaning or repairing of the device, all cables have to be detached and the
device has to be turned off.
Do not use any scouring cleansers, petrol, alcohol or the like to clean the product. These might at-
tack the surface of the device. Furthermore, the fumes are explosive and hazardous to your health.
Moreover, you should not use sharp-edged tools, screwdrivers, metal brushes or similar implements
for cleaning.
To clean the device or the display and measuring cables, use a clean, slightly damp, fuzz-free,
antistatic cloth.
If you have technical questions concerning the use of the device, feel free to contact our technical
support.
DISpOSAL
E lectronic products are raw materials and do not belong in the household waste. When
the device has reached the end of its service life, please dispose of it, in accordance with
current statutory requirements, at your local collection site. It is prohibited to dispose of
the device with domestic waste.
