If the maximum carrying weight of the bike carrier or equivalent (*see above) on the Van 'n Bike bike
carrier rack is lower, this weight applies. The lowest recommended maximum load must always be
respected and may not be exceeded.
Example 1:
Weight of bike carrier = 17 kg and maximum weight of the bikes on the bike carrier = 60 kg:
total maximum weight = 77 kg.
Example 2:
Weight of bike carrier = 17 kg and maximum weight of the bikes on the bike carrier = 40 kg:
total maximum weight = 57 kg.
2.7: Driving characteristics and regulations: Driving with the Van 'n Bike bike carrier rack affects the
driving characteristics of your motor vehicle: adapt your driving speed to the new behaviour of your
motor vehicle, avoid sudden or sharp steering movements and remember that your motor vehicle is
longer than normal.
Remember that the increased weight will increase the stopping distance of your vehicle. Also always
remember that the length of your vehicle has increased, particularly at intersections and while carrying
out manoeuvres. Additional rear view mirrors or cameras are required if there is reduced visibility.
The manufacturer recommends not driving faster than 110 km/hour. If the bike carrier assembled on
the Van 'n Bike bike carrier rack shows a lower maximum speed, this must be respected. The speed of
the vehicle must always be matched with the load transported and the actual driving conditions, such
as the type of road, wind, traffic intensity and applicable speed limit. The applicable speed limits and
other traffic rules must always be respected.
Driving with the Van 'n Bike bike carrier rack on uneven ground can cause it to break off. The Van 'n
Bike bike carrier rack may not be used on unsurfaced roads.
An incorrect or inadequate connection between the Van 'n Bike bike carrier rack and the vehicle can
cause the Van 'n Bike bike carrier rack to come loose. If you notice irregularities, this must be
immediately reported to the manufacturer or supplier. During transport all levers, bolts and/or nuts
must be fastened tightly according to the assembly instructions.
2.8: Ball coupling:
THE VAN 'N BIKE BIKE CARRIER RACK BALL COUPLING HAS BEEN MODIFIED SO IT IS NOT POSSIBLE
TO USE IT TO TOW TRAILERS OR OTHER OBJECTS. SO ONE MAY NOT USE IT AS A TOWING ACCESSORY.
IT IS ONLY INTENDED TO CARRY BIKE CARRIERS or equivalent (*) THAT HAVE BEEN APPROVED FOR
CONNECTION WITH A BALL COUPLING.
If there is a ball coupling (in combination with tow bar/chassis) on the vehicle to tow a trailer, the clear
space around the ball coupling must be ensured in conformity with regulation 661/2009 – UNECE R55-
01. For coupling and uncoupling the ball coupling this is 60 ° to the left or right, 10 ° vertically upwards
or downwards and 10 ° axially to the left or right.
To obtain this clear space when towing a trailer in combination with an installed Van 'n Bike bike carrier
rack, one can temporarily remove the ball coupling on the Van 'n Bike bike carrier rack, or an extended
tow hook on the tow bar on your vehicle can be a solution. The user must immediately contact the
manufacturer for an explanation of the instructions.
