The masks which are regularly used must be cleaned and disinfected frequently, in order to ensure an adequate
protection to the user. The device must be cleaned after every use because sweat and saliva depositing on the valve
could jeopardize its protective capacity. The half mask must also be disinfected before use by another person. If
Polimask series half masks are not used for long periods shall be verified ability to function, and additionally must be
subjected to the procedure of cleaning and disinfection. In general, half masks, after a period of eight years, must be
eliminated in order to prevent further use. After the replacement of spare parts which could modify the leak tightness,
a total check of the mask is needed.

10.2 Visual check

Before each use, check that the respirator is both clean and in good condition. Any damaged or defective part must be
replaced before use. It is advisable to proceed as follows:
• Check that the face piece is not damaged by cracks, cuts or dirt. Make sure that the face piece is not permanently
distorted in the sealing area. The material must be flexible and not stiff.
• Check that the inhalation valves are not distorted or damaged by cracks or cuts. Lift the membranes in order to
check that their seat is not damaged.
• Make sure that the head harness is in good condition and perfectly flexible.
• Check that all plastic component parts are not broken or damaged. Make sure that all gaskets are in their seats.
• Check the exhalation valve and particularly make sure that the valve and its seat are not dirty or damaged by cracks,
cuts and distortions.

10.3 Cleaning

Breathing devices must always be clean and hygienic. Moreover, as sweat and spittle, which deposit on the valve, can
prejudice the right working of the respirator, it is necessary to clean the mask after using. After disassembling the
component parts, if necessary, clean thoroughly with tepid water containing a light deter-gent. Never use solvents!
Exhalation and inhalation valves must be cleaned with special care. After cleaning it thoroughly, rinse under running
water and hang up to dry in the open air or in special cupboards. Avoid exposure to direct solar heat and temperature
over 50°C. When dry, reassemble correctly all the component parts.

10.4 Disinfection

If the halfmask has become particularly dirty or is to be used by another person, it should be disinfected. After cleaning
the mask thoroughly, disinfect it in a container. Only recommended disinfectant can be used (code 4437.0360). Follow
