LIGHTING INSTRUCTIONS

A. ­Inspect­heater­before­each­use,­check­all­fittings­and­
connections­with­a­soapy­water­solution.­NEVER USE A
MATCH TO CHECK FOR LEAKS.­Should­a­gas­leak­occur,­do­
not­attempt­to­repair­or­use­heater.­Return­the­heater­to­your­
dealer­or­the­address­given­on­back­page.­
B.­­Fuel­–­This­heater­must­be­used­only­with­a­vapor­withdrawal­
LP­gas­bulk­cylinder.­THE­BULK­TANK­MUST­BE­EQUIPPED­
WITH­A­STANDARD­POL­VALVE.
WARNING
USE­PROPANE­GAS­ONLY­AND­CYLINDERS­MARKED­IN­
ACCORDANCE­WITH­THE­SPECIFICATIONS­OF­THE­U.S.­
DEPARTMENT­OF­TRANSPORTATION­(DOT­SPEC.39).­DO­NOT­
USE­ANY­OTHER­TYPE­OF­FUEL.­SEE­YOUR­PROPANE­DEALER­
IF­YOU­HAVE­ANY­QUESTIONS­REGARDING­FUEL.­
C.­­Turn­the­heater's­"Hi-Med-Lo-Off"­regulator­knob­to­"HI"­
(clockwise).­
D.­­To­light­the­MH540T,­depress­and­hold­the­Safety­Shutoff­
Valve.­While­holding­the­Safety­Shutoff­Valve­button­
immediately­light­heater­through­the­hole­on­the­base­of­the­
reflector.­Figure­5
CAUTION:­­ I mmediately­light­heater­after­depressing­in­valve­
to­avoid­excessive­build­up­of­propane­gas.
E.­­After­the­heater­is­lit,­continue­to­hold­the­Safety­Shutoff­
Valve­for­60­seconds,­then­release­the­button.
F.­­ If­burner­does­not­light­within­10­seconds,­turn­the­heater's­
regulator­knob­to­"off"­(counter­clockwise)­and­allow­at­least­
five­minutes­for­gas­to­dissipate­before­attempting­to­relight.­
G.­­Adjust­heat­output­by­turning­regulator­knob­to­desired­
position.­(LOW,­MEDIUM,­HI)
H. Pull­on­lever­to­adjust­heater­to­the­desired­tilted­angle­
operating­position.­Figure­6

SHUTDOWN AND STORAGE
INSTRUCTIONS
A.­­ ­ ­ W hen­shutting­OFF­the­heater,­make­sure­heater­is­in­the­
upright­position­and­not­at­any­angle,­then­turn­the­regulator­
knob­on­the­heater­to­the­OFF­position­(turning­counter­
clockwise).
B. CAUTION:­After­turning­the­unit­OFF,­the­heater­will­remain­
extremely­hot.­Allow­at­least­15­minutes­for­cooling­before­
handling­and­storing.
C.­­­ D etach­heater­from­bulk­tank­before­handling­and­storage.­
REMEMBER-POL­on­hose­fitting­is­a­left-hand­thread.
D. HEATER STORAGE:­Indoor­storage­of­the­heater­is­
permissible­only­if­the­cylinder­is­disconnected­and­removed­
from­the­heater.­Cylinders­must­be­stored­outdoors­out­of­
the­reach­of­children­and­must­not­be­stored­in­a­building,­
garage,­or­another­enclosed­area.­Store­cylinders­only­in­
accordance­with­the­"Standard­for­Storage­and­Handling­of­
Liquefied­Petroleum­Gases­ANSI/NFPA­58­and­CSA­B149.1,­
Natural­Gas­and­Petroleum­Installation­Code.­Installation­
Code."
E. MAINTENANCE:­Keep­any­obstruction­from­within­venturi­
tubes­by­blowing­compressed­air­(80­psi­max).­Direct­the­
compressed­air­through­the­venturi­tube­toward­the­burner­
plenum­so­that­dust­collected­on­the­grid­screen­will­be­blown­
outward.­Keep­face­away­from­the­grid­screen.
