Dismantling spring struts
When starting the plunger must
always be extended about 10 cm so
it can be backed up if the pretension
on the spring presses against the
tool.
Fit the lift unit (1) on the plunger. Fit
the claws in the outer holes on the
bent arms (2). Unscrew the adjuster
screws (3) enough so the claws can
be moved outside the spring. With
the arms in the bottom position,
adjust the height of the stand with
the pump, so one arm enters in
under the spring/disc. The other arm
is adjusted in towards the spring/
disc on the other side. The arms are
centered and secured in position by
screwing in the adjuster screws on
each side.
Compress the spring by pumping up
the hydraulic plunger so the spring
strut is lifted out of the axle shaft.
Move the axle shaft to the side and
lower the spring compressor.
Dismantle the spring unit.
Always position the spring
compressor with the stand so
that one leg is straight under the
spring (4). Otherwise the spring
compressor can tip over when
loaded.
When pressing in this way, the spring compressor presses with a
slightly uneven load against the surface. If the surface is slippery e.g.
due to oil, it can slide to one side. Make sure the stand cannot slide.
