PALLETT FORKS

8. OPERATION

Before using the equipment, read all the
information in the chapter "Safety
Rules".
Do not use the pallet forks until you have read and
understood all the instructions in this manual. The
forks are suitable for handling materials bound by
means of metallic straps, shrink wrap film, and so on.
It is strictly prohibited to use the device for handling
loose materials. It is designed and constructed for
handling and ground transport of any compact material
placed on a pallet, of variable dimensions that fall
within the range of maximum and minimum fork tip
opening and length. The weight of the goods must fall
within the capacity limits indicated on the metal plate
applied to the fork attachment.
The maximum width must not exceed 20% of the
external opening of the two tips. For example, with the
fork adjusted to 1200 mm outer tip, the maximum
width of the pack allowed is 1440 mm.
The goods must be placed on a rigid pallet made of
wood or other material that guarantees proper
distribution of the weight on the tips of the forks.
The pack must be compact and must form a single
body with the pallet on which it is placed. It is strictly
prohibited to handle loose materials or any materials
that do not meet the requirements indicated above.
WARNING: For lifting and transport at
more than 1.5 m from the ground, refer
to the regulations of the country in which
the pallet fork attachment is being used.
Italian regulations: in compliance with
Presidential Decree 164 of 07/01/56 Art.
58 (Par. 4) regarding the load lifting and
lowering, the lifting of bricks, stones,
gravel, and other small size materials must
exclusively be carried out using buckets or
metal boxes; simple platforms or slings are
not permitted.
Make sure that the total weight of the material to be
handled falls within the capacity indicated on the
identification plate of the fork attachment and,
obviously, that the material and the equipment are
within the capacity of the crane.
22
Important. For correct use of the fork
attachment, it is necessary to situate a
chain with welded links between the crane
hook and the fork ring; the chain must be
equipped at the upper end with a ring and
at the lower end a hook with carabiner
closure. Make sure that this
chain is suitable for the weight of the load
supported (forks plus material).
During operation, the fork attachment must be gripped
with the hands only by the handles situated on the
sides.
To adjust the width of the tips, proceed as follows:
Model FPF 20 L
- with the forks empty and raised, loosen the wing nuts
situated above the couplings at the base;
- adjust the width of the tips and lock them by
tightening the wing nuts.
The FPF 20 L model can also be adjusted in height;
proceed as follows:
- connect the fork attachment to the crane as
described in point 5.3 and set it on the ground
empty;
- remove the parallel pin so that the upper tubular
element is free to slide on the lower one;
- use the crane to raise the upper part of the fork to
the desired height, in correspondence with the holes;
- lock the fork by re-inserting the parallel pin and the
safety stop.
