• Do not operate the appliance in explosive atmospheres, with
hazardous substances or under water.
• Only process media that will not react dangerously to the extra
energy produced through processing. This also applies to any
extra energy produced in other ways, e.g. through light irradiation.
• Check the appliance and accessories beforehand for damage
each time you use them. Do not use damaged components.
• Safe operation is only guaranteed with the accessories described
in the "Accessories" chapter.
• Accessories must be securely attached to the device and cannot
come off by themselves. The centre of gravity of the assembly
must lie within the surface on which it is set up.
• It may be possible for wear debris from rotating accessory parts
to reach the material being processed.
• Caution! The user must check that all conditions have been met
for the safe and correct operation of the equipment before opera-
ting the ETS-D6 with a heater that does have a DIN 12878 com-
pliant connector, and therefore does not provide cut-out proection.
(The cut-out protection is a mechanism that ensures that the
electrical heating circuit is switched off should the contact ther-
mometer (ETS-D6) be broken or if the connector is removed.).
For protection of the equipment
• Protect the appliance and accessories from bumps and impacts.
Use of "H+P" magnetic stirring systems (no break fuse protec-
tion included)
When the supply current for the ETS-D6 is interrupted, the elec-
tronics for the heatable magnetic agitator system will take over
the temperature control. This means that the magnetic agitator
system will heat up to the temperature set (e.g. 300 °C).
Readjust the set-point temperature for the magnetic agitator
system or switch the heating off.
Use of "Corning" magnetic stirrer PC-400, PC-420, PC-600,
PC-620
When using the ETS-D6 in conjunction with a "Corning" Magnetic
012007
Agitator it is absolutely essential that the rotary "heat" dial on the
magnetic agitator is set to the "O" (off) position. The ETS-D6 will
only control the set temperature when it is in this position.
Warning: The heating plate temperature limiter is not active in
this operating mode.
If the rotary "heat" dial on the magnetic agitator is not in the "O"
position then the magnetic agitator will heat up to the tempera-
ture set, regardless of the settings on the ETS-D6.
Warning: ETS-D6 is inactive.
The safety advices given above represent the current status of the
known risks. Nonetheless, the user must check equipment for
correct and safe operation before operating any system compri-
sing the ETS-D6 and a magnetic stirring/heating system.

Correct use

• Use
- Precise measurement and control of temperature
The instrument can be connected to any magnetic agitator or
heating plate that has a contact thermometer connection, provided
this conforms with the requirements listed in the "Technical Data",
see chapter "Technical Data".
These are amongst others IKA magnetic stirrers and Heidolph
magnetic stirrers. You can connect Corning magnetic stirrers by
the adapter AD-C1.
- pH- measurement
An optional pH-probe can be connected using the built in BNC
connector.
When measuring temperature and pH at the same time, the glass
sheathed temperature sensor should be used in order to avoid any
interference with the pH measurement. To obtain useful results for
pH measurements when using earthed heating plates (stainless
steel, silumin) an electrically isolated container (glass beaker) must
be used.
