Tyre mounting and demounting
basics
• Use the plastic parts for clamping, a plastic
mounting/demounting tool and special mounting
levers (coated or the like) to avoid damaging
rims, in particular alloy rims, when mounting or
demounting tyres.
• Before demounting and/or mounting a tyre, apply
a suitable amount of commercial lubricant (liquid
or paste) to the outside and inside of the bead
and, for TD tyres, to the Denloc grooves. Never
use other products which its is only assumed
have a lubricating action!
• Before demounting and/or mounting a tyre, check
the rim for damage (deformation and/or damaged
surface of rim fl anges, rim lateral and radial run-
out, corrosion, wear in general).
• With some tyre types, during mounting pay
attention to the sidewall rib and the direction of
mounting indicated on the tyre.
• When infl ating a tyre, increase the pressure
gradually and if possible constantly monitoring
the bead. A seating pressure of 3.3 bar must
not be exceeded. Make sure the tyre is correctly
seated relative to the rim. Do not exceed a
pressure of 3.5 bar (see also Chapter 9. Infl ating
a tyre. Tyres which require a higher pressure
must be infl ated in suitable infl ating devices
(safety cage and the like).
• Always fi t tyres on rims of correct size (identical
nominal diameter). For example, do not fi t tyres
with nominal size in mm on rims with nominal
size in inches and vice versa.
• For runfl at tyres always use the (1, Fig.15)
pneumatic mounting tool, taking into account the
specifi c mounting and demounting instructions
provided by the runfl at system manufacturer.
• Never fi t inner tubes in TD tyres.
• For instructions on RFT tyre changing (also
applicable to wide tyres), consult the separate
instructions, ref. no. EAZ0033G27A.
• Always pay attention to special mounting
and demounting instructions provided by tyre
manufacturers.
