3.2 Bead breaking procedure
Observe the tip of the bead breaker blade during
bead breaking. It must not stop the tyre, nor go into
the Denloc groove of TD rims and/or damage alloy
wheels.
With tightly fitted tyres (mainly TD), apply a suitable
lubricant on the tyre and rim at the point where the
bead breaker blade has just penetrated the rim
base. Never use other products which it is only
assumed have a lubricating action!
• In general before changing a wheel, clean off
any dirt and remove the old balancing weights.
• Adjust the bead breaker blade according to the size
of the tyre to be demounted (Arrow, Fig. 12).
• Unscrew the wheel valve insert to deflate the
tyre.
• Demount the tyre starting at the wide rim shoulder.
Note: If the tire is over 12" (304 mm) wide, first set
the bead breaker in the "Wide" position
• Rest the deflated wheel at the side of the special
rubber support on the machine cabinet. First turn
the turntable so that no components (cylinder,
pneumatic unions, etc.) are in contact with the
tyre. If necessary, move the jaws inwards.
• Position the bead breaker blade (2, Fig. 12) on
the outside of the tyre approximately 2 cm in front
of the rim flange using the adjustable handle (1,
Fig. 12) for precision blade positioning on the rim
circumference.
• Depress pedal (3, Fig. 12). The blade moves in
between tyre and rim. Release the pedal so that
the blade returns to the starting position.
• Continue to rotate the wheel and repeat the
breaking procedure until the tyre has been
unseated completely.
• Proceed in the same way with the second side of
the tyre.
